When it comes to medieval Europe weapons, I'm very fond of the war-axe. It was a common tool, but a very effective weapon. And has unique traits that give it an edge over the sword. It was good to see some of those traits (being able to hook a shield and pull the enemy for example)on display.

Well contemporary armour was pretty useless for protecting against it as well. I saw one bit where Ragnar hooked one of the Earl's men in loop from behind the lower leg and flipped him. I don't know how realistic it was but is was sure as hell cool. I do know that was one of the reasons the lower face was hooked though, to pull people and objects around to unbalance an enemy.
Ancient weapons were shaped the way they were for a reason. Even the seemingly awkwardly shaped Egyptian khopesh was an elegant slashing weapon perfectly suited to the fighting of the time in the hands of an expert. Something I was not aware of until I saw a UK ancient weapons expert explain it's design and balance on TV.

Being a fan of martial arts, I study all types of weapons. If I were forced to pick weapons to deal with a survival situation right now (zombies or whatever), a good war-axe/tomahawk would be at the top of my list followed by a khukri or machete. Even today's armor doesn't do that well against blades.

@ Iron: Since you're as much of a fan of "Vikings" as I am, maybe you'll be able to answer something that's been bugging me for a while now... what is the song that's playing during the scene in Episode 4 where Lagertha kills Cnut the rapist during the raid of the Northumbrian village, after he tries to rape her? (Spoiler-Tag added for the benefit of anyone who has not seen that episode yet). I've tried searching all over the internet to no avail... maybe you'll know better than I do?

Sorry, but no dice on my end so far. Loving how you're embracing Floki on your profile, by the way: that quote about Thor and the boat is pure psychotic awesome.

Sorry, but no dice on my end so far. Loving how you're embracing Floki on your profile, by the way: that quote about Thor and the boat is pure psychotic awesome. Ohh, Floki is my favorite character... though depending on the episode / scene he has serious competition in Lagertha... I think I am planning to dress as Floki for Halloween this coming October, since I think it would be relatively simple to get his makeup done... ( I know it's a bit early, but I might need that time to figure out how to emulate his balding hairstyle and fuzzy face without mostly shaving my own head... and, being female, I can't grow a goatee like a man can... LOL) And as for the quote, it was one of my favorite scenes he was in... also this: Ragnar: * laughing* Floki, come down from there! Remember, you can't swim! * Floki is balancing precariously on the edge of the boat in a storm* I also got a kick out of the raid on Sunday in the church, where Floki took a sip of the sacramental wine, spit it out in disgust, then proceeded to troll the horrified villagers by drinking more and spitting it out... He's just... psychotically hilarious!

Salty, maybe you could use an avatar of a Vikings character, then maybe we can start a thing where other people do the same, and we can have a Viking Revolution here! That'd be cool...
