I've come to realize that the first Doom is full of shit when it comes to location.
As most of you know, Doom 1 takes places on Phobos and Deimos before going through Hell itself while Doom 3 re-booted and put the UAC facility on Mars itself. I've heard many bemoan the retcon, but the surface of Mars is a much more plausible setting.
Phobos, the larger of the moons, only has an average radius of about 11.5km from its core to the surface with an escape velocity of 11.39 m/s or about 41 km/h. The average surface gravity of Phobos? It's .00058 that of Earth.
Deimos is smaller and has even weaker gravity rated at .0003 G and an escape velocity of 20 km/h.
What I'm saying is that while hauling ass from a cyberdemon or a baron, you'd be liable to fly right off either moon and drift into space.
Sorry. I'm working space systems now so I'm coming face-to-face with how things work outside of Earth and it's wrecking my appreciation of so many things. xD

Keep in mind I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in the Doom Bible that both moons were terraformed and artificial gravity added.
Still, good point, especially about Deimos. They might as well have made the entire moon float over Hell in Episode II, instead of a huge chunk of it (that Doomguy badassfully rappelled down from).

Even with terraforming, a diameter of 23 km (Phobos) or 13 km (Deimos) is only going to get you so far. Jack shit for resources. They're less moons and more random asteroids that got caught in Mars' gravity well.
