Agreed. John Pinette will be sorely missed. I felt like crying when I found out... This just sucks. Apparently my best friend knew before Linders or myself knew; he sent the news to Linders through Skype and told me this morning that he'd done that so Linders could break the news to me gently. There's no gentle way to break that news. John Pinette, we will miss you... --- And condolences to Mickey Rooney's loved ones as well... I have to admit, I don't recall seeing any movies he was in, so I am not familiar with his work, but any life lost is a terrible thing.

I think the most recent thing he did was a cameo as one of the guards in "Night at the Museum"

Wow, that sounds awful... those poor people... I never was a fan of large crowds, I just don't feel safe or comfortable in large crowds... and the mild fear of something like that might be part of my nervousness regarding crowds...

I would have been only 5 years old when that happened... so I would not have seen or understood at the time the live TV reports on it... but yeah, that seems like a horrifying thing to happen...

That kind of thing is why I'm kinda leery of mosh pits even though they can be a lot of fun (as long as no one starts a Wall of Death, that is).

I was going to comment on the absurdity of going apeshit over a football (soccer to us North Americans) game then I remembered the riots in Vancouver when the Canucks lost the Stanley cup. At least the hooligans restricted themselves to the stadium. the drunken idiots in Vancouver set half the fucking city on fire.

You should see East Lansing whenever Michigan State University does well in a sport. Of course, that's usually just a couple of couch burnings rather than a full-scale riot.

It wasn't a riot or hooligans kicking off, the ticket gates hadn't been shut police still allowed punters to move in, the fences surrounding the pitch stopped ppl from escaping, the police didn't react quick enough and didn't allow other emergency services in for about 15-20 mins Catastrophic let down as has been shown police did a major cover up

There were a shitton of couch burnings around this state, including my tiny ol' town after the University of Kentucky lost recently. Lexington had a bit of trouble keeping it under control, but BGPD wasn't gonna have none of that shit around here.
I'd say my biggest qualm with Britain are it's crazy sports fans. Granted, we got some psychotic fanboys here for sure, but for riot police to be present at nearly every football game in the UK is just insane. I dread a future where Yankees and Red Sox fans will start duking it out and set half the Bronx or Roxbury on fire.
It's pretty awful though, since most of this stuff is kind of a continuation of the more sour parts of British history, what with the MU vs Liverpool thing having some Feudalistic/War of the Roses twinges to it, and the brutal Celtic vs Rangers rivalry being very obviously connected to the Troubles.

Well, this is sad... Rubin "Hurricane" Carter has passed on... I remember the first time I'd heard of him and his struggles was when I was a lot younger and my father rented the movie that was made about him. I remember crying my eyes out watching that movie because it struck me as so horrifying what happened to him. My condolences to his friends and family...

Going to host a pint in his memory. Though I'm not much for the punk scene, The Ramones were and still are very influential in heavy metal.
