ca.news.yahoo.com/chef-90-faces-jail-fines-feeding-homeless-121414540.htmlStories like this make me cranky. The US can send billions of dollars in aid to in many cases countries run by people who would incinerate you fro looking at them the wrong way but feed a few people in Florida and you get jailed and fined. Fuck western democracy and it's anti poor bullshit. Fuck right wing assholes who just want to sweep this under the carpet and not look at it so they don't have to acknowledge it's happening and finally fuck everyone who read Ayn Rand, are too stupid to understand what she was talking about and just go around quoting "greed is good' all the fucking time. Yeah, article like this piss me the fuck off.

While I don't mind using public transit too much I sometimes have to share the ride with utter fuckwits.
For example these idiots got on the bus and sat right behind Lily and me today. They were clearly planning on meeting someone but for some godawful reason that required the loudest of them to holler out the window at the top of her lungs to them. After I checked my ears for blood I muttered (pointedly loudly) "Jesus Christ." She rather snottily said "who said Christ?" I said "that was me, screaming on the bus like that." "So I'm allowed." (she wasn't) I proceeded to tell her that no one needed to hear that shit and got off as it was my stop.
Lily heard her saying that some old man told her off when she met up her friend. I'd be slightly offended at that designation if she was not too stupid to live.

At the risk of sounding sexist here, I was not aware girls' voices in general could get so bloody loud! I mean, really! I jumped about ten feet when she howled like that out the window of the bus, and she seemed honestly surprised that her bellowing annoyed the people on the bus! Their stop happened to be the same as ours, they got off the bus before we did and as we were walking toward the shop we were heading to, we passed the girls who had met their friend, and the howler said to her friend "Some old guy told me off" and glared at Linders and me as they walked past us... I had a good laugh out of that.
But seriously, people like her really make it clear how inconsiderate and impolite so many young people are nowadays (at the risk of sounding like an old codger myself here). Really, my parents raised me better than that when I was growing up.

I've been on a public transit bus in civilian clothes several times, but one time stands out as some idiot tried to out-shout me (he was loud and obnoxious while I initially asked him politely to tone it down). Apparently my haircut wasn't enough to clue him into my career and I went full Drill Sergeant on his punk ass. I was treated to applause from the rest of the riders when I was done wiping the floor with him... verbally of course.
ETA: he called himself an "original gangsta" but I had him in tears by the time I was done with him.

Had a rocket scientist call in tonight to complain that her wings weren't cooked. She asked for boneless wings in exchange. The wings were burnt to a crisp, having been through our 550 degree oven twice. My phone guy initially agreed to swap her out, but I put the kibosh on that right away. She stiffed me, and now she's saying she didn't get what she ordered? I made sure the wings were well done and she got all her sauces. So I called her back and said we couldn't do it, but I got her voicemail. I called again, voicemail again. A half hour later, she calls back, wants to know where her replacement wings are. I told her that she wasn't getting them. She proceeds to tell me she's going to starve tonight because her wings weren't well done. (Trust me, starving was highly unlikely in her situation) In the interest of making her life as difficult as possible, I told her she couldn't get it fixed until tomorrow morning. Then in the crowning move, I wait until we're done for the night, void the order and call her at 1:40 to tell her the money will be returned to her account. I hope I woke her up from a sound sleep, too.
The only question is whether boss in the morning will pay attention to my attempts to contact him, and be aware she might come in and cause trouble anyway.

Why deliberately try to make her life difficult? Denying the exchange is one thing - but deliberately aggravating the situation only serves to... well, aggravate the situation.
Also, isn't it illegal for a business to call people after a certain time of night?

Not that I know of, and if it were, she initiated the exchange, I just called to say we resolved it.
Because she was rude, aggressive, and stingy. And she was those things before her order wasn't what she claimed she wanted. So if I can mess with her and not get fired for it (spitting in food is a no-no), I call it justice.

If you say so. But that doesn't seem like customer service to me. At least, not the way I was trained in customer service - in every job I've ever had, since I was old enough to have a job.

Edited for snark...

I've been in "Customer Service" for nigh on 16 years now, and if I've learned anything it's that Customers are assholes and often not deserving of respect. They treat me like scum to do their bidding, scream at me when they screw up and then expect me to keep smiling at them or lose my job. Maybe you don't have to deal with that as much in a phone bank. Another thing you don't have to deal with: Risking your life and livelihood (if my car is destroyed, my entire income is gone) to have the door slammed in your face with exact change in your hand. With this lady, she was scamming us. She ordered one thing (she, by herself, placed the online order), then demanded another. When she didn't get it, she demanded her original order for free, on frankly ridiculous reasoning. When I delivered her original order, she made an expressive point of not giving me any tip whatsoever. This is a fraction of what I have to deal with on an average night. Furthermore, I gave her what she wanted, her order of wings (pre-cooked before we receive them, then ran twice for 7 minutes through a 550 degree oven) for free. I found my rare opportunity for revenge, and I took it. www.notalwaysright.com

I would argue that working in a phone bank you are exposed to more abuse from customers. When you will never see the face of the person you are dealing with it is way easier to justify to yourself being an asshole to them. Speaking from my own call center experience here. All too frequently when I was dealing snippy people who were being jerks to me it was specifically because someone else working for the same company was deliberately negligent in their jobs. Fucking people around in my experience makes things worse for the next person, so doing that little prank just made things worse for the next person in exchange for a little smug self satisfaction.
Some people are thoroughly irredeemable. This lady sounds like one. But we all work in the service industry. I guarantee you that woman has told everyone within earshot how "horrible" the service at your shop is. Bad news travels far easier than good. It is a truism in our industry that for every tale of how good service is, there are ten about how horrible it is, mostly because people really are whiners. the ripples can be hard to see but to many actions like that could indirectly end your job if the place closes down due to poor rep.
Lily and I both frequent notalwaysright.com I see stories in there posted from time to time similar to yours and I shake my head at them too.

Yeah, I suppose the anonymity of just another voice on the other end makes it easier for the jerks to be themselves. As for a negative reaction, if this woman tells others, I can't imagine too much of a reaction. The development she lives in orders all the time and gets great service for the most part because it's very easy to get to. And given her actions and personality, I don't know that I want her friends' business. Besides, what is she going to say, "I wanted free wings, and I got them?"
Maybe y'all have more of a feeling of social responsibility than I do. Try being stiffed at the door a few times and see how long that lasts. When they go out out of their way to be mean to me, I will take their money & walk away without saying goodnight. It's about all I'm allowed to do.

Here's one: someone just told me that Star Wars: Episode III was a "masterpiece" and used its "widely popular reception and critical acclaim" as evidence of his assertion.
Now everyone's entitled to an opinion but what was it Sagan said about "Chariot of the Gods"?
