the asshole cop who did this is still patrolling in my city. I am not fucking amused. ca.news.yahoo.com/violent-police-home-invasion-leads-090000753.htmlRespond to a noise complaint if you have to, but if there is no noise at the time you arrive you may knock, but are not permitted to forcefully enter and beat the shit out of the residents and then charge them with a trumped up charge of obstructing justice. I am fucking appalled.

Really makes me thankful that the two officers who came to our home late one night a few months ago on a "noise complaint" / "domestic disturbance" call (waking us both up, as we were asleep and therefore most definitely not the cause of the complaint) were two of the honest cops. All they did was stand in the doorway asking us a few questions, shined their flashlight on me to make sure I was not showing any signs of abuse (which is almost laughable as Linders is the least likely man I've ever dated to be an abuser), and then they left. And I only found out that that was the reason they were looking at me so intently after the fact; I asked Linders later after the officers left: "Why were they shining their light all over me, and why did you leave the room when they were talking to me?" and he said "They wanted to make sure you weren't being abused. They were looking for bruises."
Funny thing was though, they couldn't seem to get the facts straight as to how the complaint came in - first it was a domestic disturbance from that very night, but then later they said they'd gotten the report of a domestic disturbance from 7:00 the previous evening - and if that was the case, why were they pounding on our door over 28 hours later? If the domestic disturbance they were supposedly responding to was real, the poor victim might have already been broken or worse by the time they got help.
Also, I don't respond well to being yanked forcefully out of sleep unexpectedly - which is why our alarm clock is the gentle sound of a waterfall, as opposed to the loud abrasive screeching most alarm clocks do. When forced awake without a chance to come gently back to the world of wakefulness, I tend to shiver and shake uncontrollably, and my voice goes weak. Which might have been misconstrued as something... worse. Thank god those two officers listened to what we had to say and didn't just come barging in; hearing about situations like in that article makes me realize that we sort of lucked out that night.
I feel so bad for those siblings - the fact that she lost her job and her license to get the same type of job later is a really big insult to injury, and I am appalled at the lack of justice here.
Disgusting.

Most of the time the local PD is pretty reputable around here. But yeah, fuck those particular guys.

Shout out to Cool Cops who are actually Lawful Good, such as the dude who bought a carseat for a motorist, and the guy who bought baby formula to a household during the Boston Marathon bombing.
There are way too many power trippers and fuckheads who are working the forces, but that doesn't mean we should marginalize or ignore policemen who do their duty with honor and integrity.

Agreed, Cali - there are a lot of truly good police officers - the problem is that the bad and corrupt ones are usually the ones who make headlines, and therefore tarnish the reputation of the whole force. It's sad, really.
I remember there was one officer quite a few years back when I was out with my best friend, we'd gone to dinner and were walking to the store from the restaurant when I was hit with a sudden throbbing headache. I grabbed my head and bent over in pain, and my friend put his hand on my back in a gesture of comfort, and a police officer who was driving by actually pulled over and got out of his car to ask if I needed help or an ambulance because he could see I was in pain.
I didn't need that kind of help, all I needed was an emergency Advil and to get home and go to sleep, but I was rather grateful that the officer had stopped - because if I was having a medical emergency that required help, he'd be able to get help for me faster than I or my friend could.
It's officers like him who deserve to be remembered.

In my experience, good cops seriously outnumber the bad. Doesn't stop the bad cops from existing. Looking at the pics in that article, those cops really lit that guy up. Those wounds on his eye require quite a bit of force and malicious intent for that kind of damage.
If I were the couple in question, I'd try to bring the attention of Parliament and the highest courts in the country to this travesty.

The police have released a statement saying that the paltry suspension with pay that punk got was properly handling the case. I am in the process of drafting a letter to my city councilor about this. I'll post a draft to here when I am done. As not directly involved citizen I don't know what else to do without trying to set up a grassroots protest that would likely get me gassed. I figure that I will let the response I get from my representative set my mood and thought processes appropriately.

This was the draft I just sent out.
I am writing in regards to a report in the media about the unprofessional and illegal conduct of a member of the Halifax Regional Police department. While I am certain both of you are aware of this incident by now I will take the liberty of linking the reports here for you to review at the bottom of this letter. It seems that 2 police officers illegally entered a citizen's residence and proceeded to assault them. While an internal review somehow found no wrong doing a review board decision came to the conclusion that they acted outside of the law. In spite of this and the fact that they pressed a trumped up charge of obstructing justice at these citizens that cost them their jobs and tens of thousands of dollars it seems that no criminal charges were filed against the officers who were fund to have illegally acted and they received a slap on the wrist. Far more odiously, they are still on the beat today.
In my very limited interaction with Halifax's finest, I have received nothing but courtesy and respect. That does nothing to negate my discomfort at their having authority within the law with such poor oversight.
I have questions. I would like to know how HRM PD's own review came out with no wrongdoing. I would like to know what possible flaws exist in HRM PD's review system that could allow such a grievous error in judgement. I would like to know what actions are being taken right now to keep this form of abuse from happening again. These people's live are ruined and you have plugged your ears and denied responsibility. That. Is. Unacceptable.
Mayor (redacted), I am now speaking directly to you. While I respect you stance that the vast majority of the time our police handle themselves respectfully, I cannot disagree with your belief that HRP handled this correctly more than I do this minute. I expected some statement that there would be a review to see what was happening, what I got was a platitude about the good work the police does.
Remember, the institutions of the courts and policing can only do their jobs with the consent of the people. If enough people lose their faith in them, they lose their power and effectiveness.I do not wish this any more than you do.
I appreciate your time in reviewing this and wish you both well.
Good Day
Sincerely

looks like I contacted the wrong government body. I must pursue this up the food chain it seems.
He was courteous. But it's pretty clear that city government in Nova Scotia is has even less power than I already though. Sad really.

I can't fucking stand right wing radio and sound clips like that exemplify my reasons for it. I find it remarkable how alike they all sound too. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just one guy screaming into a microphone in a basement surrounded by open packages of Jack Links beef jerky and open bottle of JD.

That jackass can go jump off a cliff for all I care. How dare he insult soldiers with PTSD?? When he goes to a war-torn place and puts his life on the line to defend our country, and potentially brush with death in a road-mine attack in Afghanistan and end up with mild brain damage and permanent back damage and come out lucky to even be alive - then he can say shit like that and maybe - maybe - not get his ass kicked for it. *beat*Sorry. I'm a little sensitive to that sort of shite. People suffering from PTSD and depression and the like deserve such better treatment than this ass-face is spouting.
