So I hate to say it after my uh... outburst about the Collectors... but I'm actually starting to look forward to the Omega DLC. Bit late to the party, but-

Aww... come on Gorvar, we all know Buch love his ME3 stuff (much to my cringing designer mind). The Omega DLC is the tame stuff, compare to the other stuff he likes in ME3 (like that starbrat for example).
Why so surprised?

Considering I'm a fan of Aria, I'm cautiously optimistic on this one. Just hoping they don't ruin it.

It is BioWare. They do seem to have a knack for that lately.

Considering I'm a fan of Aria, I'm cautiously optimistic on this one. Just hoping they don't ruin it. This is my opinion on the Omega DLC in a nutshell, with a dash more optimism than other things. I've recently gotten over my stink about the ending of ME3 (I still think it's a pretty crap ending even with the EC (which solved most but not all of the problems with the original ending, IMO), but I'm willing to put that aside), so maybe Bioware won't mess this up. But the Leviathan DLC was okay, so maybe the Omega DLC will actually be good. Besides, I figured it was going to be showing up eventually: Aria's small role in the current game was likely going to be expanded anyway. I mean, you wouldn't get frickin' Trinity to voice your character if you're gonna underutilize her in the game, y'know? And personally, I'm not as annoyed with the random female turian. Personally, I think it's about time female turians got some representation in the ME games, after three games where they haven't actually appeared in-game. And hey, I was proven right about my "give 'im a chance" talk with James, I'm sure it'll happen with this female turian. (And hey, maybe the games'll retcon that Dark Horse design for female turians. We'll have to see.)

It is BioWare. They do seem to have a knack for that lately. THIS! I don't have any hopes for this DLC honestly in my viewpoint, and this coming from someone who dabbled in game development before and knows a few people from the industry. If BioWare did more effort to Aria's character through "show, don't tell' when it comes to her mafia badassery, I would probably might give a shit about her. So far from what the two games have shown, she's more of a lazy bum who doesn't get off her seat often as she should and scrowls too much... yeah you can see why I'm more inclined to flip a bird and tell her to get her stinkhole for herself if I managed to hi-jack Shepard's mind for just one moment. The comics don't count, especially they have a high chance to be reconed by the main game. Speaking of that... Female turians. Ask me a few months ago before ME3 came out, I would squee in joy at the prospect of seeing them. These days, given my lack of faith in BioWare, I doubt something good would come out of it. And if they recon their design... I stand my point that the comics aren't that much a realiable source of the canon. I think I'll stick with the Paragons of the Renaissance my version of the female turians, thanks.

Seriously though. I was expected to accept Aria's badassery without having seen any direct evidence. All she did in both games was sit on a couch. Hell that even reminded me of how Plinkett was complaining about the dialogue scenes in the Star Wars prequel movies.
Frankly without actually having a real character established for her she was nothing but a foul mouthed blowhard to me. Her little display with the Asari counselor in ME 3 did nothing to alleviate that for me.
She could be a good character but the writers really did not know how to make her one.

True, but we had a third party tell us before we met him his importance. With Aria it is all from her that we hear it until we meet the Patriarch. Yoda was not an obnoxious prick either and that always helps. If you are going to be an obnoxious prick to one of the premier badasses of the galaxy you show not fucking tell.

I remember seeing a picture of Aria being a (temporary, likely) squadmate few days ago. Edit: Found it! Oh wait, that's from an early video. My mistake!

As I recall, there are several arcs in the comics that cement Aria as being powerful in her own right as a fighter when she wants to be. As far as the actual games go, she took her place on Omega through force. She might have gotten allies through the promise of sex, but she went toe-to-toe agaisnt a Krogan Battlemaster (Patriarch) in a straight-up fight and won. Not to mention the allusions that shes the merc who broke even against Wrex on that space station.

I'll grant that about about the comics. but the Dar Horse Comics are abominations that I would just as soon forget existed.
We find out all this other stuff after she acts the complete snobby self absorbed something or other. Doing it right would have given us this first giving us a reason to give a crap about her. It was a bad first impression that was never actually fixed through showing us anything. Just telling.
I know it's petty to let that taint my impressions of the character but as it is a fictional character and my impressions we are talking about I feel OK about that.
