So when my brother and I went to see The Dark Knight Rises today, there was a trailer for The Man of Steel which confused the hell out of us.
Did anyone else see this? Did we hallucinate it?
Basically, it's very generic for the most part, and shows scattered scenes from somebody's childhood.... except that it's completely silent except for the song Gandalf's Fall from the movie The Fellowship of the Ring.
And then in the last few seconds you get a two-second shot of Superman, and then the Superman logo, and then the title 'The Man of Steel', at which point the entire audience says, "Oh, I SEEE.... I totally thought it was the Hobbit!"
It just struck me as so very strange and random that Superman (of all people!) doesn't have his own theme music and has to steal some from Gandalf! And that the director would choose to make this stolen music the entire focus of the trailer. One of the strangest movie trailers I've ever seen, for sure.

My brother and I came up with a bunch of possible plot-lines to explain this on the way home. The winner being the idea that the movie is basically about Gandalf becoming Superman.
As it starts you see a long, sad shot of the bridge of Kazad-Dum, and then suddenly he flies out of there and smites the Balrog's ruin on the mountainside with his heat vision -- and then immediately punches Sauron and his orcs in the face, destroys the Ring with his fists, plants an American flag on Mount Doom and proceeds to get a job at the Daily Planet, where he falls in love with Lois Lane.
What's strange is that we both agreed this would be a better movie than the one we expect.
