Since I'm spending my evening hating current movies - I saw the latest trailer for this one today too, and I'm very worried. Spidey, in this new trailer (the really long one that features a long scene where he asks out Gwen Stacy) Spidey seems like kind of an arse. I dunno. And Gwen Stacy, as in... not Mary Jane? I dunno, man...... It seems very different to the Spider-man I grew up with. He's so young and dark and.... not in love with Mary Jane. And his costume looks wierd and Uncle Ben seems to be cracking jokes and being all cool and also he is the Illusive Man. I'm really, really looking forward to this film, but I have a lot of worries here. Is it just me?

I am not looking forward to that new Spiderman movie - I think Hollywood is going waaay overboard with the Spiderman movies. And I thought the ones with Tobey Maguire were... iffy. Maybe it's just that I am not much of a Spiderman fan...

I thought the first movie was dull, the third one was poor, and the middle one was...... absolutely incredible. I can't tell you how much I love 'Spider-Man 2'.
He's always been my favourite superhero. After Marvel's incredible run recently with the Avengers and its prequels... this one has to potential to be great. Just....... mannnn, his costume looks wierd and he's so young and smarmy.

I really enjoyed Spiderman 2. I thought 1 was...OK, not great, but far from terrible. I was warned well in advance about 3. I never saw it, and I never will.
This reboot looks horrible. It always looked horrible. It will take a lot to make me want to see it.

I'm kinda looking forward to this one. It seems that they're actually sticking with the original comic story line. Can't say much about the actor since I haven't seen much of the previews, but Peter didn't care much about MJ as more than a friend until after Gwen died.

Ah well there you go. Loyal to the originals is a very good sign. This gives me hope.
See, I'm no afficionado - I just loved that cartoon series as a kid.

Some complaints about the Tobey spideys... First they crossed 2X99 version (the web coming from his body) with the Ultimate version (MJ as a childhood friend, Gwen nowhere to be seen, and I really HATE how the new Ultimate continuity spidey is half black, half latino and bats for the other team. Not because I have a problem with such people ( I don't) but because it's lazy writing to shoe-horn in a new version of a hero just to appeal to a broader demographic.) Then they clustered some of the story elements like bringing Venom out too early. I'd have liked to see Scorpion, Rhino, Kingpin, Hammerhead, Black Cat, etc.
This version will have the mechanical web-shooters and hopefully the actor won't come across as a bit of a ponce. (Not a fan of Tobey by any means.)

Tobey was not really a very good fit for the role. I do like the mechanical web idea. I prefer the classic version as it tends to more closely emphasize that Spidey was one of the "brainy" heroes. I just am not really sold on it.
Rebooting it so soon is really more about trying to hold onto the rights to the character more than it is about fixing the story. If they don't use the character then the rights go back to Marvel. MovieBob had a thing on it not long ago. But if they actually manage to make something worth seeing in the process, I won't complain. It just really doesn't look good from what little I have seen.

Tobey didnt really crackwse a lot as Spidey, which is a shame since Spidey is that kind of character. Im willing to go see this film if only because a Spider-man comic where he teamed up with Wolverine was my first comic book ever that I owned.
I hate how Sony owns Spidey and Fox owns the X-men, they could;ve made a cameo or even joined the Avengers...

However good it is, it won't be half as good as The Spectacular Spider-Man. That was dope.

Dope indeed....Anyone ehard any good things about the Ultimate Spider-Man? Ultimate Spidey... well if we go by the current run, Peter Parker is dead. Got replaced by a half-Latino/half-Black, gay guy in the most blatantly lazy attempt to "appeal to a broader demographic" according to Marvel. Course the Peter Parker of the Ultimate continuity was much more of a whiney bitch than the Spidey most of us grew up with.

Moviebob has weighed in. the verdict from him is not good. I don't agree with him very often but he is usually spot on on super hero movies and is especially scathing here.

I've read very conflicting reviews from lots of people.
My review: It's good. Not amazing (ha HA!) but good. I think I prefer it to the Tobey MacGuire version, because the Lizard is very cool and the actors playing Peter and Gwen Stacy are very, very good. The Illusive Man is good in it too - everything is very professional and moving and exciting and funny. I had a good time.
BUT --- the problems are that 1) the plot seems disjointed and without a clear point, and 2) despite making superficial changes (swapping Mary-jane for Gwen, swapping the Daily Bugle for the police, Green Goblin for Lizard, wrestling for buying chocolate milk...) it really is exactly the same movie as the 2002 version.
What's good, and unique, is that Peter really does feel like he ought to in this one. He's kind of a jerk, he's confident and yet socially-awkward, he cracks wise while he fights the bad guys and gleefully enjoys the swinging about and the heroics, and you get a tremendous sense of teenage angst and tension. Also -- they really go out of their way to justify the 'spider-sense' power and super-strength, implying a lot of stuff about spiders' reflexes and vision. I liked that.
