So this week I've been trying to write a short sci-fi story about the limits of human exploration, and what happens when we've seen everything. It is every bit as pretentious as that sounds. And it's probably confusing as hell, too. If anyone is interested, the story is here, and it's called Horizon. Thanks.

I like it Buch, i really do. The idea of having exploration being mundane instead of exciting is amazing and yet the magic of it all in the end I liked. also picking a gay couple as explorers was another thing i enjoyed. Also the lack of other inteligient life and thus mankind being the only species in space right now has always been a big liking to me, what if we ARE alone? You call it pretensious, i call it fantastic.

Thanks a lot, Gorvar! I was very uneasy about this story - didn't know if those ideas would coem through or make sense. It's very good to know you liked it.

I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon with Gorvar and say I like it a lot as well. You did something really unique by flipping the concept of 'the final frontier' on its head, and it paid off.
I don't see the pretentiousness of which you speak, but I must say that I don't quite get the ending and the significance of the single spot of black. Maybe I'm just clueless, though.

Thank you too, aerecura. About the end - yes I wondered if that might not make sense. That one star he could see was just to illustrate that the ship was turning round. It was black though, because the colours were inverted. The thing was that there is something out past the Edge, but there are no stars. So Ash can only see it, whatever it is, when he ignores the starlight and looks at it in another way.

Yeah, I got that it was black because the colors were inverted, I just wasn't sure what it was doing there. Now I can see what you mean about the ship turning, though. Just a suggestion, but you may want to make that a little more clear - although your point may be to have the ending remain ambiguous, a little clarity to help silly readers like myself along never hurt. It's still excellent though

Thanks again - I will probably re-write that ending.

very interesting and entertaining. I didn't think it was confusing at all. Very well done.
