Funnily enough, you end up protecting a little girl in Dishonored, too. I didn't really engage with her like I did with Clem.

So what did people actually think of Dishonored?
I've had it for ages and only got round to playing it properly in the last couple weeks. I found it "okay". Most of the characters are completely unlikeable, I found it very short.
Obviously first time I played the "good" way - which I found ponderous and annoying. It was a lot more fun the second time when I went for the "kill everything" approach. I still tried to use the stealth elements, and you got a much better sense of power while Blink-ing through a room and killing a handful of enemies before they even see you than skulking around and leaving a pile on guards snoring in a stairwell.
The gameplay was okay, but I found most of the powers completely unnecessary (I bought less than half of them in my stealth run, none in my second). Swordplay was clunky - most fights just ended with me pistol-ing the hell out of everyone. Also, River Krusts can kiss my balls, I hated those goddam things.
And the dark ending was very dark, especially if you were too slow in the final confrontation. Wheeoooo.

I haven't finished it yet. Seems to be an unbroken habit with Bethsoft games.
Melee in all of the games by that dev is fairly terrible. Good atmosphere, very creepy economy ( I never felt so sorry for whales as I did when I read how they harvest them in this culture) absolutely hate-able characters which is likely why I never really got into it.
It seems to punish you pretty hard pretty fast for killing. I'll probably pick it up again when I replace my dustbox. I really have not given it a fair shake yet.

Decent game, had the potential to be much more, but they sacrificed it to be more accessible.
Ugly setting and characters (though I absolutely despise Steampunk and Victoriana, so I'm not the best judge.)
Blink ruins the balance of the game. The Outsider was massive wasted potential. The best missions are the party, the bit where you confront Carver and the Dark Ending.
I've heard the DLCs with Mr. Blonde are much better than the main game. Tentatively looking forward to a sequel that builds on the first.

I liked Dishonored a lot. Tried to mix Thief with Assassin's Creed and Might and Magic, but wasn't really as good as any of those games, but still worth playing more than once IMHO.
Yeah, the characters were kinda forgettable, despite having well known actors you'd never know voiced them, like Brad Dourif (Pierro), Susan Surandon (Granny Rags), Lena Heady (Callista), John Slattery (Admiral Havelock), and Carrie Fisher (loudspeaker lady).
