It's in that video. And yes.
Shep: (panicked) STEVE!!!!!!!!!
Steve: I'm ok. I just have to land this bird quick.
Shep: (totally calm) Oh ok. stop and pick up some milk on your way back.

Side issue that also belongs in this thread:
The "Retake Mass Effect" guy on facebook is still going. Only now it's long posts about retaking Gaming. Someone needs to hand that guy a chill pill.

I actually felt that both Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale were spot on on the "STEVE" line. Also, am I the only one who finds it strange that anyone is accusing Meer of over emoting at all?
The squadmates were off the deep end though. They must have been giving their reads to different coaches. As spot on as the voice acting was on the rest of the game it looks as though some of the work may have been a morsel rushed at the end *raises eyebrow at Buch* No I am not getting back into that one again. Likewise with the line break back to calm. This was not writing or voice acting but very poor coaching and selection of recorded dialogue.

Shepard is a battle-hardened soldier. Shepard has seen a lot. Shepard is also leading a squad into, as I stated earlier, what could be a suicide mission. I can understand completely how in the heat of the moment, seeing Steve's shuttle go down, s/he might lose it and shout "Steve!" in shock... and then, like the battle-hardened soldier / Commander who is supposed to be able to keep his/her troops calm, s/he is able to get a grip on his/her emotions and be calm when saying "Are you sure?" after Steve says he's ok. Because to do otherwise, to get panicky for more than a single word, might not be the best display of Calm Commander who is in control of the situation. Also, being all panicky might not be the best way to keep Steve himself calm enough to land safely. "Oh, shit, the Commander himself / herself thinks this is bad - I'm screwed - I'm gonna die..." *crashes and burns* and opposed to "Ok, the boss is calm, nothing to worry about." *lands safely and lives to tell the tale*
Maybe the voice acting was a little too mood-whiplashy, but really, I see more of an issue with Ashley / Kaiden yelling "You'll pay for that! Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!" so very hammily. At least Shepard didn't sound like a sick Vorcha shrieking in pain... and yes, I realise the irony of saying that about the voice actor who actually voiced the Vorcha.
And besides, the voice acting in Mass Effect is worlds better than any other game I've seen.

I thnk that of all the things you can legitimately criticise in the Mass Effect series... the voice acting just doesn't come into it.
Those games, especially the third one, have phenomenal voice acting. I've seen major movies - lots of them - even the good ones - with far worse acting.

Fine, you were right, and I was wrong. That moment is amazing. One of the best I've ever experienced in a video game.
GOTY.

The whole STEVE thing was weird because of how calm Shepard was after Cortez said he was ok. It made me chuckle.

Yeah I have no problem that my Shepard screamed 'STEVE' when he was shot down, it's just 2 seconds later Shepard was just like "Oh ok" like he just didn't scream at the top of his lungs afraid that one of his friends might have just died. It was unnatural.
