Thought I might post some recent work - and since this one is gaming-related, it seems fitting enough: a set of illustrations I was commissioned to do for Zeitgeist: The Gears of Revolution, a series of D&D adventures published by EN World. It was my first RPG work! 1. Dr. Xandria Meredith, Archeologist and Adventurer: She is meant to be a redhead, cute but smart and with an explorer's physique. The background was to be 'bright and academic', so I happily slapped the National Library of Athens in it, slightly changed to fit the composition - though residents of Athens recognise it at once! 2. Path to the Ruins: The description called for a rainy grey swamp, with a ziggurat barely visible in the distance, and a path towards it outlined by scraps of golden-orange cloth tied to tree barks. 3. Marsh Mummy: A mummified corpse, to be exact, hanging from a spear trap from the wall. I don't really understand how a corpse can possibly mummify in a damp environment (unless it's inside a peat bog), but oh, well. The glittering necklace was a key point. I talk a bit more about the progress steps (with rough sketches shown) on my blog: eilidheln.blogspot.com/2011/12/zeitgeist-illustrations.html

Yeah. Too bad she has all those clothes on top of her. Nah, seriously. You've got some skills.

They're all fantastic. Especially the artwork of the marsh and the ziggaraut.

'Top notch' isn't any kind of exaggeration. You rarely see illustrations this good. I'm in love with the third one. More of Lieden's art here: eilidh.deviantart.com/gallery/

Haha, thanks guys! Uziel, it was requested by the commissioner that she showed no skin from the chin down. In another illustration later in the story, you see that she has small eyes all over her skin. So I guess it's better with the clothes on. Gorvar - I was hired! This was paid work. Well... maybe that's stretching it a bit, considering how the hourly rate turned out. But oh, well! Buch! Thanks! The guys at EN World liked them too, so there's a chance I'll be doing more for this adventure path as the chapters come out (if we can come to an agreement about the pay, that is ) The mummy has an appeal to me, too. I'm fond of how the rags and lighting came out. It was the most difficult of all three, but at some point it more or less clicked into place.

I've been really slow at the boards lately (increased workload, family matters). But at least I've got more work to show! So, for one thing, I made three more illustrations for the Zeitgeitst adventure path. This 4th adventure is - as I understand it - basically a long train ride. Screaming Malice: Imagine a black oily swamp reared up and towered over you like a giant with tendrils that end in screaming, fanged mouths. When a group of bandits try to ambush and rob the train, they provoke this monster to attack as a distraction.Ashima-Shimtu: One of the train's stops is near a cursed island, with a prison for a millennia-old demon. Haunted island: At night the fogs or rain roll in, and if anyone living is still on the island, all the dead who drowned or crashed on the rocks around its shore shamble onto the island to kill them. To be honest, I'm not quite so happy with this batch as I was with the previous one. It didn't help that I had a dust jacket cover I was working on almost simultaneously (and with which I am actually quite pleased!), but I was under a lot of stress lately. Good reality check, nonetheless: now I know I can't do very good work when I'm exhausted. And there is the dust jacket cover, just because I think it's pretty: (click for larger)

I'm gonna be honest: I love the hell out of this stuff! Your style is very adaptive to whichever project your tackling. Hints of impressionism in one, surrealism in another. Really, really good pieces right there.

Not trying to flatter lieden here, but there are times when I think she's the most talented member of the forum, and these types of artwork spearhead this belief. Every one of these oozes mysticism, surrealism and a delightfully sentimental sort of aesthetic style.

I'll agree with that: Lieden is pretty amazing.

My kid could do better.
Oh wait, I don't have one yet. I'd like to withdraw my previous statement.
