You mean we don't have a classical music thread here yet? For shame! Anyway, since I'm here now, I might as well change that. So... here we are, with the classical music thread. Which classical composers do you all like? For me... my tastes tend to fall on most points of the spectrum. So... for me, I like listening to music from the Baroque, Romantic, and 20th Century eras of Classical Music, and especially certain composers like Wagner, Schoenberg, Berg, and Mahler. Crazy times are had for all of 'em.

Big fan of ride of the valkyries! Wagner is simply awesome...
Also ode to Joy by Beethoven, just seems so lively.

I've always preferred the mellow type of classical music. I'm a big fan of Tchaikovsky's work, particularly the Nutcracker Ballet suite. Johann Strauss' The Blue Danube is another favorite of mine.
I'd love to get into the more obscure classical (whether it be lesser known artists, or lesser known pieces by famous artists), though I'm not entirely certain where to start.

Well, really, there are a lot of starting points depending on where you feel like getting into. There's really a ton of composers, and one thing I notice is that often the ones who get most played are either so great as to be important to the development of music in the Western World in some way (Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, and Wagner all fit in this category) or because people love their stuff. I'll just get some stuff going here along one particular path: trying to get into the German post-romantics. So... Richard Strauss, you probably already know if you've heard one of his tone poems, which are ridiculously famous. But, he also wrote these two one-act operas that were both very shocking for the time. I'm talking about the operatic powerhouses that are Salome and Elektra. So... here's a clip from Salome, and one from Elektra: For other composers of that tradition... there's basically anything by Gustav Mahler, who is at this moment in time quite thankfully beginning to rise into prominence. He's most known for some really long symphonies, but they're all really great, so... Here are a couple things by that guy for your enjoyment: Crazy times are had for all.

Well I like some of Chopin's pieces and I have a soft spot for Stavinsky . The one who did "The Rite of Sping" for a ballet piece. Also the same one that cause a major riot in its first premire at the time.
I've also used listen other obscured Composers back in secondary collage, but now I can't remember them all. I need to check into my playlist again.

I'm not as well versed in classical music as I should be, but I will say that my current favorites are Chopin's Nocturne, Beethoven's Fur Elise, 5th and 9th Symphonies, Mozart's Requiem, Rondo Allo Turca and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Johannes Braum's Hungarian Dance No. 5, and Pachelbel's Canon.
Not a bad selection, but I really need to expand on my classical music knowledge since my guitar playing is based heavily on neo-classical metal...

Regrettably I cannot think of Wagner without thinking of this Which in itself is awesome.
