I just realised that the quarian homeworld in Mass Effect is called Rannoch, and that you get to visit it in Mass Effect 3.
This is hilarious because the street adjacent to mine is also called Rannoch, and it too is home to mysterious and sickly space aliens.

Is there an explanation as to why the quarians used a Gaelic word for their planet? Or is that just what humans call it?
Nevertheless, exciting to see where our fine masked friends come from.

It could just be a coincidence, I guess. Or lazy writing.
That's interesting though; I didn't know it was Gaelic.

Well ,as we all know Gaelic is the universal lingo. Hell, look at Stonehenge. The aliens wanted us to build their shit and hence taught them the language.

Might as well ask why the turians have military outposts named for Earth tribes and peoples

I'm just gonna hand wave the whole language thing as being an artifact of the translation devices everyone uses to understand each other in perfect English. OK the more I type the stupider it sounds so I'm gonna invoke the Rule of Cool as well.

True, it shouldn't really be an issue in a galaxy where everyone speaks or is translated into English. Or whatever language you're playing in.

So did the turians abducted a few humans since the Roman Empire? If so, that explains why some of their names were similar to the old Roman language, like Septimus, etc, etc...

I think so. Depends if the Sol Mass Relay was active or not. I think I read humanity activated it when they discovered Porthean tech on Mars? Or are the MAss Relays always active?

Uh, you do know what the Sol Relay is, right? It's Charon, also known as "Pluto's moon". Just that in ME it's not a moon at all, but an iced-over mass relay. So it definitely was not active the last few millenia or so. Humanity only learned it's a relay at all due to the Prothean cache on Mars.

The fact that the turians have or had a "Chatti outpost" makes them at least somewhat sympathetic to me, in any case. Somewhat. Slightly.
