Gabe Newell, Brad Wardell, Swery65, Tim Schaefer, Chris Avellone and to a lesser extent Todd Howard are the gaming icons I respect the most.

I dunno...that Half-Life 3 in the background did piss me off for some reason..

The whooshing noise the Xbox makes is awful compared to this!

Oh hell, everytime I booted up FF9 this was the best interlude to it!

I think I already said this at the start of the thread, but I love the build-up to the final battle in any game (well, except sports and things), especially story-driven ones. I really like going in there, climbing some volcano or whatever, knowing every loose end but one is solved, and now all there is to do it kick arse. Mass Effect 2, for all its faults, is particularly good in this regard. Shepard's 'We are all probably going to die, especially Mordin' speech really, really gets my blood going.
And I might have posted this before too, but here it is again - - it perfectly sums up the feeling that makes me play these adventure games.
And after I get to the slightly disappointing end of Skyrim's main quest for the second time, I will so be listening to this!

In Morrowind/Oblivion: Wandering in the wilderness, picking flowers, and taking pretty screenshots. ^_^ And killing the occasional rabid bear that comes to annoy me. Mass Effect 2, for all its faults, is particularly good in this regard. Shepard's 'We are all probably going to die, especially Mordin' speech really, really gets my blood going. I.. must have missed that?

I.. must have missed that? That's not exactly how the speech goes. But I mean the speech you give (you have to choose a few options to be paragon or renegade, to give it your own flavour) on the Normandy 2, just before the final level. Shepard jumps up on top of a table or something so he's standing above the crew.

My Shepard gave them the Klingon speech among the lines of "It IS a good day to die!"

In Mass Effect 3, the cluster of star systems where you find the sidequest where you meet Jacob is rather unusual in that there isn't one Asset in the whole place. Is it just me, or is that a great metaphor for how useless the guy is?

One of the little bits that strangely thrills me an any RPG is the bit where the authority figure says, "Now, if you're going to go to this planet, BE AWARE that things MAY CHANGE. You might not be able to go back after you do this... if you get what I'm saying." You know, to warn you that this is the end of the main quest.
It probably should be in 'pet hates' because it's so silly and obvious, but for some reason I really love that bit. I get a great sense of anticipation from that little fourth-wall breaking moment, if the game is good.
