Want some advice on writing by David "Butthurt" Gaider? My favourite part by a country mile had to be: "If there’s any criticism I would level, it’s that many fanfiction writers insulate themselves in the safe cocoon of an appreciative audience so that they never receive the criticism required to grow. There’s no harm in that; not everyone needs to grow as a writer– but those who do find that criticism, somewhere, can turn into pretty fantastic writers." Gee, I wonder who this writer who doesn't need to grow or suffer criticism is? You don't think it could be him, do you? I would go to the author of the Davies DLC for advice before I went to Gaider.

You got me beat all I have is this retraction if you want to call it that from Bioware regarding Dietz's clusterf-er I mean novel. Looks almost like how they are making their games lately. gamebanshee.com/news/106724-mass-effect-deception-errors-and-oversights-will-be-fixed.html

I actually kinda agree with Gaider regarding this article. He's right that fanfiction has its own set of pitfalls. The community built around fanfiction.net for instance isn't the most critical. In my experience, maybe one out of every ten reviews will come back with genuine criticism, so if a writer is looking to improve, figure out their strengths/weaknesses, fanfiction isn't the best way to go about that. I like it because it encourages people to actually write where maybe they wouldn't have otherwise.
That, and it's pretty damn fun.
Where I stop agreeing with Gaider is the part where he tries to give writing advice. Don't get me wrong, it's sound advice, but... he doesn't follow it. Every single thing on that list is something I've criticized him for, or found off-putting about his novels. It's weird. It's like Cormac McCarthy criticizing people for not using proper punctuation. xD

Working with the speed and certainty of the experienced operative that he was, Leng placed the pickups in locations that, when taken together, would provide complete coverage of everything that took place in the apartment. Then, having placed a wireless tap under the comm console, he was done. Or should have been done. But Leng was something of an adrenaline junkie and enjoyed being where he was. That’s why he checked the cupboards, located some cereal, and had breakfast before putting everything back exactly as it had been. It was his apartment now, meaning a place where everything that happened would be known to him, and to Cerberus. The thought pleased him and Leng was still smiling as he left.. Ok, bit late on this buuut... Cereal Killer. That is all.

Considering how much a 'genius' Kai Leng is, I bet this is the type of cereal he eats. Also: More like Kai Leng is now the Rebecca Black of assassins rather than the badass who beat Anderson "Gotta get his cereeal..." And it's sad that this guy is supposed to be Shepard's evil counterpart. Seriously, if Shepard had to steal a box of cereal, it better be Coco Pops. -_-
