What exactly did her dear old dad do to her, besides create her? We know he funded her creation, and that she was a project to complete, not a child. What was so awful that she ran and kidnapped her copy? I wasn't paying much attention when I went through that convo last time, and I need to know what the accusations were in order to complete the next chapter of Mock Effect 2

It kinda came across as an extreme version of soccer mom syndrome. On top of setting ridiculous expectations for her he didn't let here have any kind of life or freedom and wanted her to follow exactly in his footsteps. Miranda also said he created other "daughters" as well. But Miranda and I can't remember her name were the only ones who were "good" enough to keep. I presume the others were flushed or something.
Other than that she was pretty damn vague. You have all manner of room to play around there Clint. I don't know about you but I am seeing some kind of potential for a dark parody of the Von Trappe family from The Sound of Music.

She wanted three ponies, but her dad would only let her have two.

Her father was Paul Robinson. She ran Lassiter's for him, but he still didn't trust her and actually tried to kill her mum while he was dating Miranda's best friend. And then he put the whole story in the newspaper and became a governor at the highschool just so he could control her life even more.
And then she had to leave when she pushed him off a roof and he lost his memory.

Really though I have no idea what Miranda's deal was. I liked the implication that she had gone from one abusive, powerful father to another in the Illusive Man, but I really can't pay attention when she talks. I hear her voice saying anything other than 'Right behind you, Shepard!' and I just start thinking about what's for dinner.

I'll take the pony excuse, sounds more plausable.

I had thoughts along those lines myself. "He forced me to take ballet lessons,Shepard, Ballet lessons!"

I had thoughts along those lines myself. "He forced me to take ballet lessons,Shepard, Ballet lessons!" That IS a form of torture if you're not that kind of girl. I speak from experience here.

Oh, Miranda got a pony all right. But she got THIS kind of pony:
(Beyond that, I've got nothing. On the first playthrough, however, I got a "creepy, incestuous" vibe when she talked about her dad that faded on following playthroughs. It would make a sick sort of sense.)

Let's be serious: She wasn't even allowed to have friends. I think she did go through a traumatic childhood - probably indeed all work, no play. And not just on "extreme soccer mom" levels, but probably indeed on pyschologically highly damaging levels.
On top of that her implication that earlier "variants" of her were simply removed... And her father's plan to "create a dynasty" could mean she was to inherit her business - or that the plan was to use her to start a family.
So, yeah, probably it was traumatic. Dark and troubled past like most characters in ME 2.

Just to be clear I think Clint may have been fishing for ideas for a chapter in Mock Effect 2. Otherwise carry on and Welcome octo.

Welcome to the site Octo!
The Lawson dynasty really doesn't have much of a ring to it, does it?
I found it impossible to care about Miranda's childhood trauma, honestly. The whole system of learning a character's backstory by talking to them can get a bit tiresome at times, especially, as in Miranda's case, when they essentially just infodump on you about it, with little player interaction.

Thanks, jkindlere, Glow.
Ah, yeah, right, clint said so in the OP. Oh well, I just jumped into the discussion, such as it was, heh.
And it is difficult to sympathize in any way with Miranda. I certainly don't really. Still, that childhood trauma is there *shrugs* And I agree about the conversation system. It's a bit odd how much characters explain with you doing nothing at all. But that already was so in ME 1.

I doubt he's going with it, the audience being what it is but I still like my idea of a dark parody of the Von Trappe family.

Still working on it. We shall see. We get too in depth and the story loses it's light sarcastic flow.
