Good blog entry by SF writer John Scalzi. "By not trying, I'm not even achieving failure."

That is a good article. All the better because it applies to more than just writing. It applies to anything someone might want to say "yes but" to answer the question of whether they want to do something.

John Scalzi wrote another good article, this time on mega- asshole Jame Frey (Stateside readers may recognize the name as the guy who got busted for writing a fake rehab story, "A Million Little Pieces") who is trying to sucker aspiring writers.

This isn't from John Scalzi, but a writer on the NaNoWriMo forums (I'm having a "Holy shit I hate my characters and my plot SUCKS and why the hell is my story such a pile of elephant dung?" day, so it was good to find this):

At first it's all hand holding and stealing kisses and excitement in the dark, but soon you find out your partner's feet smell too and they leave their dirty socks lying around and they don't put their dishes in the dishwasher. But does that mean you're going to abandon him or her? Just because the honeymoon is over? Then no one would be married. And everyone would be a writer. Because if writing was all kisses and no socks, everyone would be able to do it."
