Mac users already know about this program. I've never used it, but it looks pretty cool. It's designed more for writing novels and scripts. The beta release date is October 25th, and when it goes "live" in 2011, it will cost $40 (for what it does, that's a pretty good price!). You can read more about it here: Scrivener for Windows BetaQuick Time demo movie (5 minutes, low bandwidth)

Hmmm...
Looks fancy. I am very settled with MS Word, though.

For shorter writing projects, Word does fine. If you've got a novel cooking though, I can see its appeal (especially if somebody were working on a fantasy trilogy, for example). I'll at least try out the beta and see how it works. For now, though, I like using Open Office.

I can definitely see the appeal...
But me and Word are basically married at this point.

For all I know, the Windows program could be a dog. Like I said, I at least want to try the beta for NaNoWriMo. I have so many freaking notes for the Sarmatian novel project laying around my desk and bed, plus the stuff I have sitting out for "Lies", I'm kind of curious to see if Scrivener will help me get a bit more organized.

The beta is live and I've got it downloaded. Now I get to try to break it.

Hasn't happened yet. I'm still getting used to it.

I think I'm the only one here officially "doing" NaNo, but if there's anybody else out there that this applies to, read on:
Anyone who participates in NaNoWriMo this year and achieves their 50,000 words (and has them validated) will get a 50% discount coupon which they will be able to use when Scrivener for Windows is released next year.

Here's a Scrivener alternative that operates a lot like Notepad, but with an active word counter and a few other features: nanowritool.sourceforge.net/Oh yeah, it's a small download and free.

Testing Scrivener atm, just to see how it goes and so far looks promising. At least now I can sort out from the meaty chapters and the bits of loose scraps of ideas in one place, along adding extras like characters and setting, since I do a lot of character backstory writing before I begin my fiction/novel/comic.
I might consider to buy it near the end of the expiration of the trial.
