Accumulated Dragon Age 2 'head canon':
1) The real reason Merrill was ostracised in her clan was that while they are all doing Irish accents this year, she insists on doing Welsh. 2) The real reason Merrill was ostracised in her clan was that her clothes are designed with slits so you can see her armpits and they all think that's a bit weird. 3) Fenris is hunched over like that all the time because he's too embarrassed to admit that when he rolled for a broadsword character, he had no idea they would be quite so broad and it's really killing his back but he knows he'd look silly if he turned up one day with daggers. 4) The character played by Felicia Day in the DLC has no idea how staggeringly unwelcome and unpopular she is with the other Qunari, and that they constantly roll their eyes at each other when she's not looking. 5) By sheer coincidence this also happens to the real Felicia Day. 6) The Qunari at the compound are all male and all shirtless for reasons that have nothing to do with the Qun, and the moment that gate closes the volleyball comes right back out.

I remember I stole Merril's robe back in DAO on my Dalish. So every time there is the big emotional goodbye She's just standing there in her knickers. Also isn't it endearing how sarky Hawke has the biggest shit eating grin on the entire time? In a small note, i do like how Varric only uses Bianca and nothing else, adds consistancy to the character. I want a game just about Varric. Buch, do you have Sebastien in your party or no?

No, no Sebastian for me. I had him the first (and only other) time I played the game, but I didn't like him. His character was boring, I found it difficult to be either a friend or a rival with him since he had very varied views, he was fairly useless in combat, and it annoyed me how his presence kind of spoiled the ending. I remember his side-quests featured Leliana, and then at the last moment of the game there is a big dramatic reveal of Leliana, as though you had no idea she was in town.... just one last failure of the ending. So by deleting him I at least made the ending slightly less flawed, and I get to spend more time with the people I care about.
I actually don't have or care for *any* DLC for Dragon Age 2 except 'The Black Emporium' (and that purely for the magic mirror - I like the idea of ageing Hawke's appearance slightly over time). The thing with the darkspawn looks okay but I've had enough darkspawn to last a lifetime and I'm sure Hawke has too, and the Felicia Day one just really annoys me.
It's actually kind of strange how snarky Hawke is, even when you pick the 'nice' or 'violent' options. You know that one quest where you corner a man in a cave and he's a crazy child-killer who is being protected by his father but wants to die? As my Hawke killed that guy, he was making a joke! That man must have died thinking, "Dude that's just inappropriate." All I clicked was 'kill him'. Sometimes even my party members get sick of his crap and go, "Not NOW, Hawke." I'm only on Act 1 and so far Hawke's constant attempts to be the Chandler of the group have pissed the others off twice.

Never got Sebastien so I relied solely on Varric for rogue shenanigans and ranged combat. Again I had him in my party constantly so A: it made sense for the narrative and B: Varric is awesome.Kinda glad I didnt buy that DLC, does it take place in Kirkwall or Starkhaven? Any chance to leave Kirkwall IS a good one!
I admit I dont think sark works the entire time, deffo come act II when your mother's fate is revealed. No way you can do a funny there. Then again I kinda see Hawke as this insane guy/gal. Like a benevolent Joker.
I kinda like the Felicia Day DLC if only because we get to see some forests. This REALLY shows how DAII was a rush job and most of the game's gray and tan and beige colours affects the optic nerve. "Oh my god, GREEN! Holy shit I forgot how Forests looked like!".
What do you think bout the Romance options?

Absolute star of the game, if not the series so far:
Generic elf in the docks who mutters, "Elf, this. Elf, that. I'll elf your mother!" Wny is he not a romance option?

The Sebastian DLC - it takes place in Kirkwall. It doesn't really have a quest or an adventure as I recall, certainly not one grand enough to take you out of Kirkwall - maybe a little scrap here or there. It's just the party member they cut (see Shale, Javik) at the last minute, possibly for being too boring in this case. He arches, but not any better than Varric, and he's preachy and pro-Chantry and demands you join the Templars at the end, further complicating things. Also he's Scottish, which is nice.
I hear you about Hawke and his sarcastic humour - I kind of like it. Shame it's so unavoidable, but I like the idea of him being such a 'regular guy' as opposed to my Dalish super-hero martyr Warden and whatever the Inquisitor will turn out to be. Some people slay arch-demons, some emerge from the Fade where no-one else did... others invest in a quarry, argue with their uncle and crack jokes. I like that aspect of this game. With the pub, the constant humour from all party members and being measured in time rather than distance, it feels a bit like a soap opera or sitcom. It's neat........ well, it grates by Act 3 as I remember.
Don't know much about the romances! First time I romanced Anders, which was pretty good until the ending which seemed even more out of character and irritating under the circumstances. Will try Isabela this time. Anyone know whether the others are good?

I had Merril on my first time round for male Hawke and female Hawke I went for Anders. The female Hawke will be my canon. Merril's is nice if you are into the cute anime girl thing. She is still ditzy and stuff but like Anders she moves in with you but sometimes go back to her place to check on the mirror. She doesn't adapt as quick to living in Hightown but you know she has your back. Personally I liked it because it's kinda similar to Tali from ME. However when Merril's q-line ends and she realizes she was a idiot it ends abruptly, again showing how rushed act III was.
Now Fenris and Isabella don't really move in with you and aside from having shagged Isabella once, who doesn't since my dwarf warden did to as did Anders in the past and Fenris if you picked neither to romance with, i didn't really dabble with those two. If you are into the romance that takes a whole and is a bit angsty ( i cannot stay with you Hawke, you are to good a guy/gal for me. Yadda yadda), i can suggest that to you. Her romance was advertised in the trailers anyway. Also if your with Isabella you can do a threesome with her and Zevran.
But to be frank I was kinda dissapointed for the romances avaiable, i would've gone for Aveline really. Big though lady, redhead...-sigh-. Donnic you lucky bas-
Agreed on the sitcom aspect really. I like how your party is one that sticks with you for years, pretty much become family. Fair enough in DAO it was for two years you had a fellowship and each split off but in this game they improved on things by having these characters have relationships with each other outside of that with the main char. The before mentioned Isabella-Fenris (lady likes elves), Varric looking out for Anders and Merril, everyone plays cards at the Hanged man, Carver has a crush on Merril and Aveline re-marries. It's more of a life story than a hero story...and i'm okay with that. Just a shame you become the Punisher of Kirkwall really and re-visit and re-kill everything.

Favourite thing I've ever read on the Dragon Age Wiki:
"It is confirmed (1.04) that simply sleeping with Merrill can (and likely will) break off the romance with Isabela. In other words, even if you sleep with Merrill and immediately break it off at the first possible opportunity (right after the sex), you will most likely have terminated the Isabela romance regardless."
That uptight bitch.

Buch, I could read about you playing Dragon Age games all day. I hope you'll give us all your thoughts about Inquisitions when it drops.

I can't tell if you're taking the piss or not. xD
But in either case - me making comments about Inquisition is unavoidable now.

That uptight bitch. Well Isabella looks out after Merril like a big sister so I can kinda see why. Although her dialoge did seem open for a threesome...there's enough Hawke for everybody!

Also, what are those weird things Isabela's keeping her daggers in? I thought all weapons made in Thedas were coated in a powerful adhesive that let them stick to your back?
