Well I have found what I believe to be the worst public safety/service announcement ever.
So let's see if I'm following this. They're advocating that children handle potentially loaded firearms without supervision (bad idea, serious breach of safety), commit grand theft (felony), take the weapons into a school (felony), and take them out of the backpack without warning and slam them on the teacher's desk (bad idea as while guns are designed to be drop-safe, Murphy is one sadistic bastard and if the kid has their finger on the trigger... yeah.).
Let's see... kids stealing weapons from parents and taking them to school. Where does that sound familiar? Oh yeah: that's how the Newtown Massacre went down!!
Seriously, the facepalm, headdesk, and facetile combined aren't nearly enough for this level of fail.

Wow that's the most idiotic PSA I've seen in a long long time. Seriously. Everything you said, Iron, and more - taking a gun to school (felony) - which then leads to that kid being surrounded by SWAT and arrested and possibly shot by police (it's been known to happen - recently) because who's going to stop and listen to a kid who had a gun in his backpack?
Gah.
Stupid stupid stupid.

Not to mention the problems that arise when there is a real threat, Mom goes to get her gun, and Junior sold it to make liberals feel better.

Solve gun violence by ripping off Martin Freeman in Fargo.

I'll add that this idiotic PSA also assumes that gun owners don't secure their weapons and ammo properly. Keeping a pistol in a fucking dresser? What kind of lunatic does that? Both parent and child in that PSA need arresting. Child for stealing the gun and taking into a "safe zone" and the parent for not having a fucking gun safe.

Agreed. If a weapon isn't on my hip, it's locked up. Only exception is at night where it resides on my nightstand, but I live alone and without children so it's not as much a risk.

Also consider: schools have had kids arrested for making gun gestures with their fingers or biting a freaking pop-tart into a vaguely gun-shaped object, so I can just imagine how this "zero tolerance" mentality will work when a live weapon is being brought in. Because I doubt the cops will accept "I was only going to turn it over to the teacher" as an excuse.

How do you get the gun into the storage locker without taking it off your hip? Do you sleep in the storage locker?
