He's an objectively awful singer and even worse at writing.

The holding out for a hero video was pretty stank, too.

Rebecca Black is touring in Australia soon. Goddamn it. My friends were planning to egg her when she comes, literally.

I seriously want to throat-punch everyone who sings her "songs". And I want to kick whoever let her into a recording studio with zero talent right in the quad.

While you're at it, can you kick her parents? They're the ones who paid ARK "Studios" 5 grand to get her recorded and force this shit onto us in the first place.

Better yet let's give ARK studios a good kick to the quads for putting out trashy crap like this as "entertainment." ARK studios are the ones taking money from people with no talent whatsoever and making music videos for them and putting them on youtube where they go viral.

You guys do realise ARK is the musical equivalent of vanity publishing yourself, don't you?

That was the point I had tried (and failed) to make earlier. Her parents still ponied up the money, however, and thus need a good kicking. Isn't ARK supposed to be responsible for Justine Bieber too?

I polluted my browser on a web search and found that it wasn't. Some Douche named Scooter Braun saw his self produced youtube videos and used his labels to get him in touch with Usher. There is a whole lotta suck attributed to his rise to "glory"

I miss the days when bands had to put in the time and effort to get good and attract record labels. Hell, Metallica gave out their own cassettes for FREE to spread the word about thrash metal before getting a record deal. Of course, since they killed Napster, it's harder for independant bands to share their music.

Of course, since they killed Napster, it's harder for independant bands to share their music. That was probably part of the point. Why allow competition to spread their music for free and possibly divert music buying dollars from them. I agree with the loss that has come from bands or music acts not having to put in sweat equity. Still there is enough passably decent stuff coming out to make me not lose all hope. You just usually have to dig deeper for it.

There are tons of artists out there that keep me from thinking that the music industry is dead. Most are in the metal and electronic/industrial scenes. Then again, nu metal and dubstep sort of tainted the genres.

Agreed. Now, I take shit for listening to some metalcore bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine, but I actually like their sound and to my ears, it's better than most of the bands that think that just because their "singer" pukes his lyrics that they're hardcore.
Then again, I also enjoy listening to 80's hair metal so I'm a bit unorthodox.
