I've found this the other day. I have to say that's pretty much sums up on the art design for FF series.

Very funny ;D
I particularly loved 'lengthen dress' for the villain.

Too bad Square-Enix jumped the ship on not androgynous character designs after the ridiculous success of FFVII. I like ye olden times of FFI-VI, where everyone was a badass and androgyny wasn't picked up yet.

I know I'm using my necromancing magic to summon this thread from the grave but it's worth it, with this "review" on the slightly same topic about gender confusion character design.
Hint hint. The one with the hat is a girl ;D
On a serious topic. I have serious issues with the recent character design in the FF series. It's not just the bishoden that ticks me off but it's Tetsuya Nomura who seem to lack in creative juice. When I mean by that is his character design looks too similar to the olden characters. Compare Yuna and Tidus to Rinoa and Squall. After that, you see what I mean.
While we're at it, what's with attractive female protagonists looking Asian like. Well in most Asian video games, they have this cliche that the most important and attractive idea female beauty have Asian features. Ok, fair enough, I can overlook that, people have different ideals in beauty but when they start dying their hair to a different colour and tried to sell it off as a Caucasian type of some sort, that's when I draw the line. Not only it ruins the suspension of disbelief but also it made me question if the artist themselves are culturally reclusive at best.

I can never figure out if FF characters are meant to be Asian or white. I guess anime has developed a kind of middle-ground.

Fair play in my case, I stopped watching anime before that show ever aired. From the tiny bit I was exposed to...sorry I have no interest in it.

I never saw Dragon Ball Z. Looking at that characterisation, I'm glad!

Every one hates on DBZ Mr. Popo is just their worst character. And he doesn't show up all that much. Master Roshi is better. To get him to agree to train you, you have to bring him porno magazines.
