Well, I know Dragon Age is coming within the next month or so but atm I'm hooked with Fallout 3 again.
I've brought the 360 version a long time ago... I thought it was ok but since I'm not used to shooting and stuff on the 360. I've gave up and store it into my cupboard.
Then this year my friend lend it a copy of Fallout 3 for the PC. So I've shove it into my computer and add a few mods here and there...
Then all the sudden it becomes my favourite game!
The PC interface helps for me the play the game properly along with being optimise for high end PC specs. However, adding little mods like customise weapons, armour, hair, an extra basement for the Megaton house, etc, etc... I have to say this enhance the gaming experiance quite a lot for me! Plus Bethesia toss in the GECK toolset and I have to say... it's awesome.
As someone would say: The Mod community helps to make the game live longer than it expected to be.
So yeah Mods helped not only with Fallout 3 but also other games as well, including NWN 1 and 2, Oblivion, etc, etc.
I really hope BioWare embrace the modding scene with Dragon Age otherwise I'll be going back to Fallout 3 once I'm done with Mass Effect and Dragon Age. I've still haven't finish digging deeper into this game...

I play mostly on my 360, so modding isn't really an option, but I do remember playing with a lot of mods during Oblivion. My favourites were actually the ones that enhanced the character creator more than any actual gameplay mods...

I sorely wish I had a computer capable of modding Fallout 3, let alone run it. Modding is such fun. I did that extensively with my copies of KotOR 1 and 2, the highlights of which include the ability to skip the Peragus (an annoying intro level similar to the Citadel from Mass Effect, only humorless and boring in comparison) and being able to switch out your main character for any other character model in the game. ANY character model. In Mass Effect standards, it would be like being able to play as a Geth Armature instead of Shepard. I played through Taris as a massive krayt dragon...until I had to open a door. >< Additionally, to those of you who own a copy of KotOR II for the PC, the game's finally, fully patched up! kotaku.com/5370864/kotor-2-is-finally-finishedStarcraft was fun to mess around with as well, and I'm sure that's what contributed to its long, unnatural lifespan on the market. Playing custom scenarios were sometimes more fun than the game itself. I know that's what kept me messing around with it up until a couple years ago. So, definitely, I believe RPG creators should make it a point to open up their game to talented modders, so that they can, in turn, get more mileage out of it all. Or else we wouldn't have these: Or this, in which a woman and her modder friends created an interesting, yet, corny way, to propose to her boyfriend. For your consideration. -.-

THEY FINISHED KOTOR II !?!?!? GIMME! Yeah! Although I already know my PC won't run KotOR 2... sigh! I think modding would be wonderful too, but I almost only play on consoles.

Yes yes! It is finished! I'm excited to play a completed KotOR II myself. Have no idea how much was restored, but the common level that all of the similar projects are trying to get completed is the HK Factory on Telos. The patch is just a beta, so there are bound to be a few bugs. If I get it working properly, I'll try to take some screenshots later. =D

Bad luck indeed. I am very glad the story was finally finished. I think it's been too long for me to still care though...
I still treasure the first game.

I re-installed KotOR II, downloaded the mod.... and the game won't run. DAMN YOU, VISTA! I had that happen to me as well, Rascal. You have to download a patch for it, since Vista sees KotOR II as a threat...like many fans of the original game do. Try out this patch and it should work for you: knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/TSL_Windows_Vista_Fix%3B85439

Lol at "Dad's secret hobby". That was gold! ;D
Well I might need to check into Dungeon Crawl again to see if they have Kotor 1 and 2. a complete kotor 2 sounds like fun!
While we're on the subject of Fallout 3... I have to say, the game gets better... it's like wine. Takes time to get used to the taste and the enjoyment of it. From the mods right down to the game elements where you can almost do anything you want in a sandbox sense. Whether to save people or being a complete jackass and blow up a settlement...
Oh and I got two words for you: Plan C.
Yesterday, I've ran into this village because of this certain quest I need to finish off. But I just can't be fucked doing diplomacy, trading or bribing just to finish the quest. So how I finish? I've grab my shotgun and started a bloody massacre on the settlement with beating, torturing and shooting; the civillians and the inhabitants. While all of that going around, I've go around and nicking all their stuff after I've killed them all. ;D
Also after all of this... this game rewards me for doing so. Muhahahaha!!!
Man... I really love this game!

I downloaded the Vista fix, and now the game will load up... but just remain as a black screen before the main menu. DAMN YOU, KOTOR!!!

GAAAAAAAH. I downloaded the Vista fix, and now the game will load up... but just remain as a black screen before the main menu. DAMN YOU, KOTOR!!! Vista's such a paranoid whore; thinks everything's out to destroy it. The only other thing I can recommend is: try to make it to KotOR II's graphic menu and turn everything down and then see if it'll start up completely. Ironically, sometimes a relatively new graphics card has trouble running old games. Other than that, I found a couple forums that could help, but that's about it. =( forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=48748forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=46568And yeah, Fallout 3 is the greatest. The game itself is massive and lets you get away with anything, and usually rewards you for it. Plus, I just love the Capital Wasteland: Oasis, Point Lookout, The National Mall, and Tenpenny Tower are some of my favorite places to run around and shoot at things. I think at last count, I had logged upwards of 60 hours on it, which is a new record for a game...not counting World of Warcraft...which...ahhhhhhh...just counting my two main characters, I've racked up 1350 hours. ><

Recently I've finished another mod quest/house for Fallout 3.
One of the best mods I've played. I'll buy that modder a pint if I've see him. Not only the house fits into the wasteland setting but also how he integrated the mod into the game lore to the point of being really friendly. And the quest behind it... holy shit. that gave me the fucken chills. if you want challange and crapping your pants, play this mod without the pipboy lighting and the ghoul mask. Also while you're at it, I suggest you to bring in a lot of firepower and always follow that philosiphy "make sure it's dead".
In short with a brief review score, 10 intact fingers out of 10 mutated fingers.

I'm glad to see you finished it on Halloween, as prescribed! I'm finally getting stuck into Fallout 3 now. Very good game indeed - I don't know why it took me so long to get lost in it and apreciate it. I wish I had time enough to properly explore this world. So far I have only explored the bottom-right corner, and the main quest is over halfway done.

should have brought Broken steel... then you can explore the wasteland after you completed the main quest.
the DLCs on FO3 are not bad either... worth to download them all if you're willing to spend of cash on it. Mothership Zeta has some memorable moments from the holotapes of the cative's log...
"With all this sciance and technology you have... and you CAN'T speak fucking english?!?!"
Priceless.
