George Clooney is not my favorite actor in the wold but he has my respect for this.He has his own fucking satellite tracking an inhuman-er I mean inhumane dictator's every move and uses info he gather0s from it to try to warn civilians of impending attacks. Bono shoots his mouth off about humanitarian acts all the time but he doesn't do anything even one tenth this useful.

If only he invested in a Justice Tower instead...

If more of the a-list celebs did something useful with their money and collaborated then they could have both. I actually almost forgive Clooney for his ruining of Batman for this.

Sorry to be a downer, but this really isn't going to change much. Good on George for wanting to help, but the logistics of putting a dedicated satellite into orbit and maintaining its station over such a small area (especially an EO bird) are incredibly expensive. Not to mention if Omar al-Bashir goes down, I guarantee whoever replaces him will be about as bad. That region of the world is a complete shit hole where the locals have been trying to commit genocide against on another for centuries at least.
I'm also trying to fathom the hypocrisy of those who screamed at the US for enforcing UN sanctions in Iraq (and Sadaam did have operational chemical weapons factories/facilities despite what the media said on top of his prior use of Sarin and VX on the Kurds) but then want us to go after assholes like Kony and al-Bashir who prove to be not even remotely close to being a theater threat, yet alone a potential regional/strategic threat.
Once more, though, good on George for trying, but this sort of thing amounts to little more than an annoyance to assholes like al-Bashir.

Oh we're not saying Clooney is going in guns blazing here. But it's nice to see a star put their money where their mouth is.

Sorry. Just my cynicism showing itself here. Every time I hear about atrocities in other countries (Africa and the Middle East especially), it doesn't take long for people to shout for our military to go in and clean house, only to tell us we had no right to interfere in other countries' affairs once the bad guy is gone.

Speaking of cynicism, this is all just a giant publicity stunt to make Clooney look awesome, and to satisfy his own ego of course.
"Hi, I'm George Clooney. I'm handsome, I star in movies that are sometimes very good, and I have a device in outer space that watches the leaders of other countries. Start building my statue."

The reality of military life is pretty simple: people want you to bleed and die in their stead for their pet causes. When they see that their idealistic world view isn't actual reality, they think "well it's the military's fault for not doing it right!!!" and then demand we stop our operations, often at times when the situation is at its most delicate and has the most potential to get fucked up. Or, other times, they'll demand we back a faction that is responsible for American deaths (such as the situation in Syria where a good many of the "rebels" are fighters from outside of the country who belong to such organizations like al-Qaida). Just some food for thought.

Like the others - it's a good point Iron but I don't think any of us thought Clooney was saving the world here. But he's certainly going above and beyond and crucially, raising awareness.
