That derailment only happened because they let it happen. They weren't prepared going in and there were enough holes in their plan that they went back to the drawing board. Hell, if they were half an inch smarter, THAT would be their plan. Let the internet have it's little victory, and tomorrow pass the real bill with a bare minimum of attention. They did try doing that months ago and it failed then to. Thanks to watch dog.net people found out about it. Their was zero media coverage regarding SOPA or CISPA. It got known threw the internet. Even after that major media outlets didn't cover it. Luckily it always seems to die after a point since it is marked has unconstitutional. Why is it that some people think that ultimately they can only loss to big companies even when it's been proven otherwise. Shit if they walk into every fight like they've lost already then why have freedom at all. They might has well pack it in and be pushed around since they love it so much. Luckily I don't think that way.

Not going to join in the argument, I just want state my observation why people seemed to be having a cynical approach, is because the industry seemed to fail the consumer one too many times. And it did not help that the relations between the consumer and the industry has gone sour recently, with the makers putting the blame on the consumer, rather than looking at their complaints and reflecting on it the very least. (Eg: The Reboot of DMC, Gearbox and Colonial Marines if my memory is working properly. If not, then I've seen it too many times with other developers and makers to the point being blurred in my mind. etc.) As someone from tumblr puts it, this is the only industry where the consumers were blamed for whatever failing is happening.
Hence I couldn't blame the half-hearted attitude is going around here, because that sort of hospitality left a bad taste with some of the people in the forums.
Still, either way, don't give up on writing petitions or whatever. But again, as some people said, that isn't enough. Use your wallet as well to argue your case, especially if the petition has fallen through the hole.

I've been dreading this slightly higher gen since before anything was shown. The shitty business practices of game companies over the past few years didn't instill faith that a positive turn was coming. It sounds even whores now then what I expected. Shit if they want to give me the big fuck you, I'll just buy up whatever last gen games I missed and wipe my hands clean of them for good. I’m also in no mood to start trying to figure out how to upgrade my PC for gaming. More importantly I don’t want to spend that kind of money all at once or save up for it. If I’m going to use that kind of money then It will be on projects that will return my investment in some way.

Honestly, there's a lot of things that the consoles needed to be fixed up, particularly the X-Box One. I have't forgiven for forcing Indie Developers to adopt a big name publisher, before they are even allowed to distribute their games onto the console, but that's derailing the thread.

Speaking of which, did PIPA which was almost the same thing that was was being bandied about at the same time get passed? I can't remember.

Pretty sure both failed. Never you fear, they'll get their cash from someplace. Maybe somebody will lock them in Skyrim, and they can rest with their loads of gold.

I still like Baffin Island. the climate suits their cold cold hearts rather well. And they'll have polar bears and Inuit for company.

Well, Sony won't have the always-online policy for their new console. That, and there's no barrier on used games. Mission accomplished for that! Now gamers are using Change.org to get Microsoft's attention and persuade them to get rid of these policies on the Xbox One. But it says it needs a hundred signatures. I would say it needs a lot more. Link is here.

I singed and I'm getting a PS4. Now I play the multiyear waiting game for Microsoft. If PS4 kill's them in sales they might be forced to at least fix the DRM issue. By fix I mean take it to the woods break it's legs with baseball bats, bash its face in with brass knuckles, tie a cement brick to its legs, and throw it in the east river.
