Not a whole lot of surprises here. The switch to Blu ray pretty near guaranteed that there would be no backwards compatibility, it's gonna cost about $600.00 USD and do everything except iron your slacks. Even the peripherals are gonna be revamped to the point where all the old ones that shipped with the 360 are useless. On the [plus side it looks like it wants to replace your cable box add more social network features for those that want them. www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2013/may/22/xbox-one-five-key-pointswww.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/I might sound a tad bit jaded here. I think I am though. I find it rather hilarious that console gamers will put up with all the peripherals and games of previous generations not working in the new stuff when I can still plug a 15 year keyboard and play 20 year old games on my PC with next to no tweaking. I know that new architecture is needed to move gaming forward on the consoles. But I can't help but see it as a cynical money trap.

Expensive and very similar to the previous model - it is hard not to feel ripped-off. And this business about needing to be always online and charging a fee to play a used game -- puts me off a great deal. I'll not be buying one of these at launch, that's for sure. No doubt eventually there will be some certain game that I'll just *have* to have though. But I don't know - I have no enthusiasm for this machine whatsoever. "We made another one. Graphics are better and we're pressing on with the Kinect business, and putting Skype on it which... might be nice, you know. And it has the following pain-in-the-ass, monkey-grabbing drawbacks........." Yeah, great. I remember when the new console carried with it a bunch of innovations and a degree of excitement. Now its just, "Hey - the controller is black now. And it has the X button in a different place, and we put some like, ribbed stuff on the joysticks." Woot.
Also the name is terrible. Xbox One?! I've been trying to work out the logic behind that. Are they trying to deny the existence of the previous two, so that the brand doesn't look tired? I don't know.
But I'm sure the graphics will be good and there will be a few great games every year as always. And also I heard a rumour that they're doing a new Killer Instinct game? If that's true, I'm interested.

Just realised I typed 'monkey-grabbing' instead of money-grabbing. I really am thinking about grabbing monkeys at all times of the day.

Well their logic about the name I think is that this is the ONE entertainment device you need. Ugh. I really am reminded of the adverts for the PS "it only does everything" 3.
Further proof that Microsoft is about a gen behind the other 2 guys in their thinking. Can't wait for the Steam box to come out and show all three of these clowns how it's done.

I was set to hate it over the possibility that it would not have the ability to handle used games. But I was misinformed, so I have nothing to hate it over yet. I only got a 360 a few years ago and only then because it was an awesome deal.

8 gig RAM, 500GB hard drive and Blu Ray. Those three points alone pretty seriously outstrip the 360. Got nothing on the GPU yet but I imagine it will be cutting edge if they want this box to last more than a couple of years.
I imagine that there will be a serious push to cloud gaming this generation which could make further hardware improvements unnecessary on the homefront. That's gonna require much better access to full high speed broadband to more places first though.

Why do they call it the Xbox One?
Because it has one game.
Because you play it once then never touch it again.
Because when you see it, you turn one degree and keep on walking.

To be fair, it's a slightly less ridiculous name than 'Xbox 360'. Which in turn is slightly less ridiculous than 'Xbox'.
