Buch, as I said: I've no problems with legal immigration and the like. The more the merrier. My personal experiences with illegal immigrants tell me that there's more than a few rotten apples in the bunch. More so when you've got women who are in full-blown labor walking into US territory and having their "anchor baby" so they can freeload off our society (I'm not making this up, it's a common occurrence).
Allow me to put this another way: if I were to emigrate to say... Germany, I'd be expected to maintain a legal visa, learn the language, and possibly become a full-blown citizen if I want to permanently stay in that country without having to renew my visa on a regular basis. If my family could come here having lost their entire family wealth (what little they had since I don't have any really "rich" ancestors unless you go back to the Brooks clan in Normandy and the Borhalter clan in Scottland way back in the days of Edward the Longshanks and William the Conqueror) to political upheaval, the Great Famine, etc, and manage to do it legally, why can't these people?

I can already hear the screams. Seriously Iron I'm just going to not read this thread so we don't have to scream at each other.

I seriously mean it this time. Only a fool would say 'I'm not getting into this' and then get into it 900 times in a row. I have done that 899 times so far. Not today!

Can I at least soak up a bit of the gasoline I am smelling here by asking the floor if there is any confusion between illegal immigration which is frequently the province of people entering a country illegally and taking advantage of their largess without actually contributing back in a very parasitic way as is happening in the US a lot and refugees who use a legal process to take shelter in a country after being forced to leave their own at the threat of their lives?
I could be mistaken but I believe Iron's problem is with the former and not the latter.

Well, I guess it's all about the experience people have with "collective" issues.
I've known both legal and illegal immigrants (central or South American mostly) that went to my high school, and always got along with them, moreso than many of the other students in my school. I was always the white kid that didn't fit with the other white kids and went to sit with blacks and hispanics, who I always got along with.
I guess it's all personal experience in the end, and I'm not trying to marginalize the plight (no matter how large or small) of those who were legitimately screwed over by illegal immigration (even though I think the whole "THEY TOOK OUR JOBS" idiom may very well be grade-A qualified reactionary horseshit). But still, I've always been about respecting everyone no matter what, in the usual left-wing sorta way.
Respecting others for who they are has always worked for me. That's just my experience. Due to my terribleness at math, and understanding of fiscal issues in general, I guess I have no right to judge what should be what on the economical side of the illegal immigration issue. So yeah, that's that.
