I'm wondering if there is a time limit on this game. Like if you spend to much time srewing around to get yuor fleet and squad mates, you return to a dried out Earth and Anderson scolds you from the grave?

I doubt it. I suspect it will be more like DA:O. Each hub will have a central conflict at it. The choice you make will determine your allies in the final fight. You will artificially be forced to make sacrifices.
A doomsday timer of some kind would be awesome, I just don't see it happening.

It's been since Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask isn't it?

It's been since Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask isn't it? I really wouldn't know. Time in RPGs for the most part existed on it's own weird sense of urgency. In that the urgency existed only in cut scenes. If there were games that broke that mold I have not played them.

Didn't they explicitely say that ME 3 will have better endings if you solve all the side-quests etc.? So it seems apparently that you'll be able to take your time.

Well I would do that anyway... I love side quests!

Probably something more short term than that per say. Probably more like Arrival's time constraints where the limit is per mission.

Kinda like the timeskips in Dragon Age II? I know, bad example but still...

Was actually thinking more about the world map in DA:O. When you complete a hub,the black smoke representing the Blight spreads over more of the map. Artificially showing the movement of time through story events.

It will take very skillful writing to encourage the player to be slow and thorough in a third-act game about the Reaper invasion. But if anyone in the games industry has skilled enough writiers right now, it's the Mass Effect crew. I'll be VERY curious to see how this progresses.
Did anyone play that Metroid game on the Game Boy Advance - 'Fusion'? They failed at this - it's a big exploratory game, but the storyline is constantly demanding that you rush through it before something awful happens. There is someone chasing you, a lot of timers, doors locking after certaine events. It's a great little story, actually, but such an annoying feature in a Metroid game, of all things.

A shoulder-mounted heavy gun! Actually, that's what elcor do, they mount weapons on their shoulders. So surely there would be a niche for a heavy weapons guy in the squad?

A mobile artilery guy! Yeh, kinda like the Desmatosuchus from Dino D-day!
