Ok, I got to play for a little while today. Not as open world as GTA and Red Dead, but the driving/fighting/shooting mechanics are similar. Interrogating people is about 60% of the of what you'll be doing, so its not as action packed as previous Rockstar games.
That being said, the way you investigate crimes, the characters, and that new facial animation tech all makes for one hell of a game.

It's definitely a different beast when compared to GTA and RDR, but I personally think that's a good thing. It's pretty much a 1940s police RPG, with all that it entails. The technology behind the game is what really elevates it up to Rockstar quality, but yeah, it is different.

This sounds right up my alley. I will try and play this when I can.

This sounds right up my alley. I will try and play this when I can. Once you get the hang of it (which will take a while; I sucked at interrogation for most of the game. In fact... I'm still pretty bad... sigh) the game is really, really interesting. Based on how you solve cases, how many clues you find, how timely you are, the game will change the rest of the storyline accordingly. Sometimes, the wrong person might go to jail, you might be too late to catch someone, or you might miss out on an entire "quest line." I showed up one time and caught these two mobsters roughing up this lady in her apartment. I quit before saving and had to play that part over again, ended up taking my time. Showed up and they had already beat her up and escaped, missed out on a few things in the process. Interesting game, that's what I keep saying. The bad part about it is how repetitive it's getting right now. Regardless of innocence, I always end up chasing someone on foot, chasing someone in a car. The gameplay gets predictable, even if the plot itself doesn't. It's definitely worth playing. Never played anything like it, but I don't want to keep it as much as, say, Red Dead Redemption. The replayability doesn't seem to be there, since the emphasis on exploration isn't really there. They basically recreated 1940s LA to serve as a backdrop, which is insane but it definitely helps immersion. Just wish they had been able to license Coca-Cola and Pepsi logos for the billboards. The game doesn't feel quite right without those two brands being everywhere. xD Also, here's 90% of the game's soundtrack (kinda joking):

Saw the game went out one day early at JB... wanted to get it but my cash is too short Guess I have to get it tomorrow then. Since this is a type of game where you have to look at the body language of the NPCs to solve cases... let see how my good sleuthing skills go in this one. I'm quite savvy in the crime genre, been reading lots of real life cases, crimes stories, frequent the web sleuthing forums. So yeah, apart from testing the game out, let's just say a crime solving is one of my favourite genres. Any game that that is a about crime, is good in my books, as I've said before.

I just caught a glimpse of a spoilered trope on the L.A. Noire TVTropes page! (I dunno why, but I keep having to fight off the compulsion to read it.)
I only saw the word "Internal" and it was a trope starting with "A", which I assume was "After The End",
This must mean that the game really takes place in Cole Phelp's stomach and various other "internal" organs, in an alternate universe where the Russians nuked America during the Cold War.
I need this game.

Boy you aren't kidding about that trumpet. Being the crazy person I am, I'm on my third redo of the first big case

Same here, man.
See, I totally get what they were trying to do. Like in Fable: make it so that you live with your decisions. But... I just hate doing that. I've restarted this game so many times now. Every time I see that "X" in that notebook, I freak out. >=O

I had that issue too, took me a while until I can get slightly used to being forced to live by the consequences of this game. I'm still snarking with this game, but not as vitriolic as DA2, mostly it's about criminal chumps victimising Cole's pimp hat.
Other than that, this game is going to be on my favourite list. So far I'm up to the last case in the Traffic section called "The fallen Idol". I wish I could play more, but Uni calls. I have to step away from this game until the semester break begins which is next week.

That fallen idol case reminded me of what Knight said. I think that case would've been more immersive if they'd crashed into a Coke or Pepsi billboard, rather than a "Cola King" one, or whatever.
I'm loving all the partners you get so far, too (except for the Vice Douche.)
I'm finding that I suck at judging emotions and stuff like that, too. I can almost always find every last piece of evidence, but I'll be damned if I can tell when someone's lying (the Mollers' teenaged daughter totally played Cole for a chump.)

I'm up to the Vice arc now. I'll be really laying off this game till next Saturday.
I see what you mean by your new Vice partner. When I saw that guy at the opening of the Vice arc... my first thought was "Shit! This corrupted bastard? FUUUUUUUUUUU-!"

Honestly... that's a bit OOC for Cole. He's more than just a Rockstar thug.

I've never really liked Ctrl-Alt-Del. The author's a bit of a douche. 'Nuff said.
Anyway, Rockstar have announced some DLC, for release on June 21. They haven't said whether this is the same DLC, but they've also announced we'll be able to download new cases for Cole from the Burglary and Fraud Desks (nailed it)
