ok ... whatever should be said has been said so I'll dispense with the review and just get right to the point of things ... *Massages your ego a little more* ... There does that feel good? Tell me if you want me to squeeze a little harder.

I haven't reviewed Mock Effect on this site yet?!
Mmkay, then, let's do this.
I think what really makes this parody shine is that it exposes many aspects of the game's development. This story doesn't just point and laugh at things, it calculatingly targets and inflames some elements of Mass Effect that even Bioware glossed over. Not only that, but the way in which this story was told: you brought forth two Shepards so that you were able to walk both good/evil paths of the game's story, and prove that evil is not really evil. The evil that you are capable of doing in this game is along the same lines of being a bully more than anything else.
You were able to make connections between Mass Effect and KoTOR. You were able to connect the characters and events within the game that were obviously, and not so obviously, inspired by outside media.
What's more, your renditions of the characters of Mass Effect weren't just walking, talking caricatures, they took on a life of their own with your guidance and actually became much deeper at times than who they were in the game itself.
You exposed so many things. Cliches, inconsistencies, and absurdities that if anyone from Bioware read this (and I'm certain they did) they are probably still feeling the sting.
But, above all, you did all of this with respect. It was abundantly clear that although this story is absolutely scathing at times, you are still clearly a fan of the games. And that is why Mock Effect gelled with the fans.
This is why I'm looking forward to Mass Effect 2. I'm looking forward to see if Bioware has taken any of these lessons to heart and, most of all, because there is also the promise of a Mock Effect 2 when all is said and done.
You should be very proud of this. It's an intelligent, witty, and just downright hilarious. It it quite literally the funniest piece of prose that I've read since the Hitchhiker's Guide, and I wouldn't hesitate to say Mock Effect could be funnier because of its relevance to a ME fan like myself.
Good Game. ><

Maybe i'm a bit to serious when it come to fanfics but i was a little annoyed with all the rantings about gameplay mechanics and logic errors. Not that i didn't find it funny, some parts like Jane calling Dr. Chakwas "Mom" and Kaiden using Carth's battle cry were hillarious!
I haven't read the whole thing because it's so damn long but maybe i'll print it out sometime and read it beginning to end.

Thank you for the review. I'll bear it in mind. It's amazing that people are still giving feedback to this story.

This was easily one of the most hilarious fanfics i've ever read! I really look forward to "Mock effect 2" if you make it, and I know alot of other people will too. I also think it'd be interesting if you added a mock version of "Bring Down the Sky" and "Pinnacle Station". Anyway, great job on making such an amazing piece of work!

Well after first hearing about this about a year ago, reading the first few lines, losing the link, finding it again in some one's sig on the BioWare forums, and reading a few pages over the last few weeks, I finally finished reading it. Pretty good, it was funny. And you put Tali in her place, away from my ears. John and Wrex were the chit! Jane really should have just brought a thermos with her on missions. I look forward to a sequel.
10/10

I think I mentioned it somewhere, but Mock Effect is the reason why I liked Mass Effect so much. Reverse psychology, I guess. Thank you, Buch. And I'm still heartbroken with the lack of Mock Effect 2!

Okay, I used some of my weekend free time to read Mock Effect, and it absolutely had me in stitches! Especially Tali's recruitment, I nearly asphyxiated due to laughter there. "And then the T-16 models are deeper, like, ‘Nhooooooooooooorn!" Ahahahaha.... And you have figured out the internal power dynamics of the Council pretty well, I think

You hadn't read It? Tsk tsk. I have it saved in the "never get rid of" folder on my computer. I just hope ME2's end result is remotely as funny as Buch's

Hello, I'm new to this site - I just recently found the Mock Effect story, and while I have not played the games (yet - that may change in future) I do know a little (very little) about the actual Mass Effect thanks to my boyfriend's rather entertaining tellings of the games. I will say, though, that Mock Effect had me laughing so hard at some points that I was heard two rooms away, through two mostly closed doors, laughing at certain references - like the Saren / Green Goblin / Hobgoblin stuff, I actually had conflicting images in my head of what little I know of Saren merged with Willem Dafoe as the Goblin from the Spiderman movie. Also, I liked the threaded references: for example, referring to Fai Dan, referencing Quark, then referencing Principle Snyder (I am a rather obsessive Buffy fan, so that made me giggle). And I absolutely loved the Villain Clippit scenes; you put that irritating little paperclip to good use...
I also liked the notion of the two Shepards, the Paragon and the Renegade in the same storyline - hats off to you, sir, you made it work so well!
Actually, to be honest, reading Mock Effect is making me want to play the games; I just find that I am not very good at playing computer games unless they're of the Elder Scrolls Oblivion / Skyrim type. That will likely soon change.
Again, awesome parody, and thanks for the entertaining read!

Thanks very much! And welcome to the site, as well. I will never get over the ego-trip of people laughing at this parody. So cheers for saying so. And of course, I urge you to play the games. They may not have a great deal in common with Elder Scrolls, but they do tell a great space opera story.

Well, I do like the story so far based on what my boyfriend has told me... and if I can get over my odd fear of non-Elder Scrolls games, I might just commandeer his computer and try out the ME games. It sounds fun, but I'm not a fast learner in games... oddly enough, considering my vast obsession with the fantasy world. I did try Assassin's Creed 2 briefly, but could not for the life of me grasp an understanding of the controls! For the love of all that is holy, the controls made NO sense!
