Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy had absolutely amazing music! Not only the original score but the pop music cues they used, like Nina Simone and this cool thing-
Also I rather liked the selection of metal tunes from that band 'Theory of a Deadman' who they seemed to have licenced. The band who are on Lucas Kane's CD player and play over the end credits.

Theory of a Deadman? Metal? They must have changed up their style in the last 5 years because last I heard of them they sounded just like Default and Nickleback. In fact I had a joke going at the time that there were so many bands that sounded like each other I would say when I heard one of them on the radio "hey guys it that band The Default Theory of a Dead Nickle's Creed" Sorry got off on a bit of a rant there. I lost all faith in commercial music at that time. I am not even close top up to date on mainstream music. The good part of that is I have never had the profound misfortune to hear a song from The Jonas Brothers

xD
I don't know the first thing about rock music! I just hear electric guitars and think, 'this must be that metal I've been hearing about'.
True though - those bands do all sound the same. To me 'Theory of a Dad Man' are just 'that band from Fahrenheit' though!

OK I guess I better explain the joke I just told then ;D The Default Theory of a Dead Creed's Nickle is a conglomerate of a bunch of copycat bands, some of which are still working. Creed, Nickleback(widely regarded as one of Canada's worst exports since Celine Dion I'm ashamed to admit) Theory of a Dead Man and Default. In 2012 they will have a live concert together and the world will end in a burst of agony.

Nickleback(widely regarded as one of Canada's worst exports since Celine Dion I'm ashamed to admit) You've given us BioWare, Michael Ironside, Canadian bacon and those hilarious red police officers, so you're off the hook. For now. ;D

Cool Don't forget Rush, one of the more awesome bands out there.

Did you ever play guitar as Lucas in Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy? One of those tunes was a really nice, mellow guitar piece. Yeah, great music selections all round, and a good game.
Rush are outstanding musicians, and still going strong! I bought a few of their albums the other year after seeing a rather excellent tribute band in the UK called Bravado.

Oh I quite like Rush.
And yeah I do rememebr the guitar playing in Fahrenheit. That was nice. And the main theme of the game never left my head. The only complaint I have about the music is that whenever your man Tyler walks anywhere, it plays 70's funk music. Now, I've seen black people walking, and that never happenned. Really that did seem like taking the stereotype way too far.

I was actually reading something about this the other day, in a blog about the 'racial ambiguity' in Fahrenheit, or something. It was a pretty interesting read. It said that while Tyler is obviously a pretty stereotypical black character, he does grow beyond that steretype in some ways. asianampopculture.blogspot.com/2008/03/lucas-kane-carla-valenti-and-racial.htmlHeavy Rain tends to be a bit better with the whole race thing. Apart from Mad Jack, one of two african american characters in the entire freakin' game. His first words are 'HEY, CRACKA!' and he speaks in the most cringeworthy 'jive-talk' ever burned to disc. Luckily, he's a minor character with about 10 minutes of screen time.

It's like Quantic Dream have only ever read about non-white races in books.
Fahrenheit, despite being a fantastic game with a great story and good characters, had some very cringeworthy racial stereotyping. The Chinese booksop owner and Tyler make me very uncomfortable at times, even if Tyler is a positive stereotype.
But yeah, great game despite that. There were some other very hokey bits too - like the "lunatic asylum" and every single character therein. This is a pet peeve of mine - the way movies and similar depict mental illness.
------
This article... I strongly diagree with! I think the author is reading her own bias into the game without any basis whatsoever. This article is just... idiotic.
"The name “Kane” is also an important symbol, because it appears to call forth the yellowface character of Kwai Chang Caine, who was played by David Carradine in the 1970s TV series. Kwai Chang Caine was a Shaolin martial artist with the symbols of the tiger and the dragon burned into his forearms. Likewise, Lucas Kane is a martial artist with a two-headed snake scarred into each forearm (done while he was under the trance). Despite these stereotypical characteristics, Lucas’s Asianness is never mentioned..."
Whooooooah there! It's Kane as in Cain and Abel. Cain the killer. Also, his Asianness is never mentioned because he is white.
And he's not a martial artist.

So I've start playing Deus Ex recently. I have to say, I LOVE the main theme for this game.
Mind you this is the orchestra version, not the original midi version. I have to admit the midi version is good too.
Oh and Yahtzee adding the lyrics to the Deus Ex main theme.

I don't normally care for Yahtzee (the critic, I find the board game very fun) but that song was rather funny. I liked the Deus Ex theme itself as well, it sounded a little similar to the Mass Effect theme from the first game. I'll have to check it out sometime.

I'm not very fond of the critic Yahtzee at all, as Tillian will attest! That was pretty funny.
It is a nice theme, too. I remember very little from this game.

Say whatever you want about the game itself, but GTA4's main theme is pretty great! (Don't mind the seizure inducing video)

When GTA IV came out I remember reading in EDGE magazine that John Williams had commented on the Myspace of Michael Hunter, the composer of Soviet Connection. From memory, he posted something like:
"Never cease to produce Mr Hunter, and you will achieve greatness."
Sound advice, really.
