A pet peeve for fan fics in the late.
Blatant self-inserts in ME fics. After "Mass Vexations", there are so many self-inserts that it's not funny. It's closer to a Mary Sue fic... fuck it, it's equivalent to it. I don't see the appeal to it, even writing as a 4th wall breaking parody. Self-inserts are just as awkward as (excuse my vulgar metaphor) masturbating yourself in public at broad daylight, mainly writing as yourself into the story.
Some people didn't understand the luxury of being anonymous at times...

Besides, I hate to be tossed into the ME world anyway, with slavers, mercs, reapers and turians with bad taste in music and games.

Gotcha. I keep getting people asking me if I'm doing an SI because a) 21st Century guy in the ME universe and b) I'm telling it from the 1st person POV. I won't deny that Ian is based on me in some respects, though. One common thread for just about every fic is that my primary OC is invaribly based off of me to a greater or lesser extent, particularly in terms of general physical build. And now, I'll tell one on myself: I'm not sure what the fuck I was thinking, but it was early on in my fic writing (as in 1st ever fanfic, period) so it's pretty much the only excuse I've got. I once did an Inuyasha SI that was fucking HORRID. You won't find it on the net since I wrote on paper. Remarkably I still have it and I make myself read it every so often as a reminder of what NOT to do. I not only Mary-Sue'd myself, but completely nerfed all the supporting characters, somehow managed to convert Yura of the Hair to the good guys' side, and took down Sesshomaru, Koga, and Naraku in a 3-on-1 fight where I completely obliterated the 4th wall a'la Deadpool and used the Shoryuken and the Kamehameha wave, among other techniques. To this day, I have no idea what the fuck I was thinking and the following sums everything up.  |

I once read this one terrible fan fic where Shepard was doing everyone and everything from Nihlus to Legion. *shudders* Only turians now seems tame if you can believe it.

Is it safe to assume that all the self insert fic's that involve the main character doing everything that moves are written by folks who either
A) Have never and never will have sex, or
B) barely have the slightest idea what sex even is?

Dude, I once saw an SI where the author clearly stated that he had no idea what sex was like and that he got ll of his information from his mother's romance novels.
