Having learned (and subsequently forgotten a good deal of) Urdu (an Arabic-based language), that makes little sense, linguistically speaking. In Arabic/Persian a Q is pronounced like a K except you make the sound in the back of your throat. Awkward as hell until you get used to it.

In Arabic/Persian a Q is pronounced like a K except you make the sound in the back of your throat. Awkward as hell until you get used to it. How exactly does one make a speaking sound in the back of their throat? I've been trying since I read your post and it doesn't sound any different than making the "K" sound the normal way...

Ah, you recognosed that! Yeah, it is very obscure. It's not really meant as a reference here though. It's just a cool sentence I found on the Wikipedia page about Pearl.
