What do you not like about him? (bonus points for Carver: Having him lets you use a two-handed blade warrior in Act 1 without resorting to Fenris.) Let's see, a younger brother who hates your guts because daddy didn't hig him enough and becomes a Templar, THE VERY PEOPLE WHO CHASED THE HAWKES FOR DECADES, if you dont take him with you to the Deep roads. But then again Fenris like like Squal from FF8 and is just as annoying. Choose your poison.

Yeah, it would have made a lot more sense for him to join up with the mercenaries/smugglers again, but him becoming a templar keeps him at the heart of the conflict in Kirkwall and is therefore more dramatic. Oh God, I'm turning into Mister Buch with my readiness to defend Dragon Age 2

Oh God, I'm turning into Mister Buch with my readiness to defend Dragon Age 2 I know. Even I, when reading through this, thought you were going a bit too far. Honestly I like Carver and Bethany both - and Aveline, too (and God help me maybe even the first two acts of Anders). But I wouldn't put any of them on this list. -- I would however like to include my favourite character in anything ever: Jolee Bindo: the greatest wise mentor any protagonist ever had. Revan: So why did you decide to come with me? Jolee: Are we back to that again? Revan: I just want to know why I shouldn't leave you at the next port. Jolee: Grmm hmmph. How's the best way to answer this? Perhaps with a little story. Revan: Not another story... Jolee: Quiet! I've had to put up with all your busybody questions, haven't I? So you'll listen to a story, damn it! Hm, where was I? Oh yes. You almost made me forget there. One day, a boy sees a poisonous snake crawl into his peaceful village. Curious, he follows it until it leaves, and all the way into the Great Desert. He moves branches out of its way to help, he even works to keep it fed... Revan: This is a very long story. Jolee: Shush! Eventually when they come to a rest, the snake turns and bites the boy. The poison works its way quickly into his system. As the boy lays there dying, the snake asks, 'Why were you foolish enough to follow me all the way out here?' The boy responds, 'Was I following you? I thought I was leading you away from everyone else!' And then he dies. Revan: Am I supposed to be the snake? Jolee: [chuckles] Well now. That's what I wanted to find out! Alec Guiness, eat your bloody heart out. That conversation is basically why I got into RPG's, into games again, into Star Wars, and into creative writing. I wanted to write that.

From Okamiden again. Kurow. Out of all the kiddy partners I've paired up with, he's one of the more well-detailed and well written characters. I like my other partners too, but his backstory and motivation when he pulled a fast one on you near end game were billiantly written, to the point I've cried at the end. While I couldn't stand Carver at times, he redeemed in my eyes just by blunting saying to Anders in the same words I would tell him if I run into him.

It's just that we'll never really have a "decent characters" thread.

And I wouldn't bother making that thread unless the whole forum demanded.

I thought of another great Character from Bioware.
Sir Roderick Ponce von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard. Voiced by none other than John Cleese. He was quite the breath of fresh air in that story let me tell you.

Oh I loved that guy. xD
Right at the heart of that po-faced, atmospheric Wuxia story you just have John Cleese, shooting at you with a comedy blunderbuss and shouting 'Bladdy HELL!' every time you hit him.

Atton Rand is one of my favorite characters from anything. I loved that in the beginning he seems like some kind of ultra-witty Han Solo, but then reveals he has a backstory worthy of most Sith Lords. =O

The writers took a character that we all know and love and gave his story its own spin. Brilliant.

Reason #185820938409384023840932809 why Chris Avellone is the best thing to happen to the gaming industry since Pac-Man. Atton and Kreia had to be the ultimate party to travel the galaxy with! I'm also in love with Ulysses from Fallout: New Vegas. Even though the only experience my character has had with him so far is rifling through his hideout and listening to two (damn well written) audio logs. I just love the sense of mystery that's been building up around him since the Courier walked into that casino in Primm. My biggest worry about Lonesome Road is that the character won't live up to shadow he's been casting.

The only thing I'm semi-worried about concerning Ulysses is that it (definitely) seems like he and Courier Six have some kind of history. I'm hoping they don't turn around and give the Courier some kind of messed up backstory that negates the role-playing. Like if you found out your Courier murdered his entire family or something, and that you were the reason he ended up abandoning Wolfhorn Ranch. But honestly, they'd really have to drop the ball big time if they're going to mess this ending up for me. My tolerance level is pretty high. xD

Atton Rand is definitely worth celebrating. I really liked Mira and Darth Sion, too - I wish they had been given a bit more dialogue.

I wanted them to expand further on the Atton/Sion parallel. It was there when one conciously (don't think I spelled that right) thought about it but there was so much room for just... more.

Yes, agreed. I love the way the game hinted at those two being mirrors of each other. It all came to a head very nicely in the scene where Sion tortured Atton, sadly removed from the final version.
