Bioware is hemorrhaging writing and programming talent lately. The fans are not the only ones seeing the writing on the wall here. That's astute. Probably right, too. I can see myself remembering the days of KotOR and Mass Effect as 'The Karpyshyn years' of my games hobby.

Agreed. I remember immediately running out to buy the first Darth Bane book when I realized he was the author. I might never personally know what he contributed and how much to each of the games he worked on, but it's easy to see that something changed between ME1 and ME2. Whether or not that change was for the better is another discussion.
But all signs point to no. xD
Read some more of DA: Asunder the other night, and I'm actually liking it a lot more now. Gaider's actually leaving some room for character development/interaction, which is good because that was sorely missed in The Calling.
The Warden was actually brought up briefly, too! And this is like a year after the shit that went down in Kirkwall, so that interested me.

What did they say bout the Warden? Apparently this is nine years after the Blight, and the Warden is hanging around Orlais with a couple familiar characters for reasons that the book wants to remain mysterious. It doesn't hint at much more than that, though. I just ordered Mass Effect: Deception off of Amazon! ...I need to learn to control myself and my money. That book has one and a half stars on Amazon US. Just how curious were you? xD

I thought the Warden vanished into Dark Space to fight the true Darkspawn, though?

The Warden died heroically and in doing so drastically improved the lot of elves in Ferelden and inspired King Alistair to rule. I know: I saw it. It was beautiful.

Mass Effect: Deception arrived yesterday, and I've tried to read it, but every time I do, I have to put the damn thing down. It's that poorly written!
I mean, here's the first paragraph (It's a rare book where you can tell it's awfully written from the first paragraph alone, but this is one!):
Many weeks of effort had been required to track the object from the point where it had been stolen to the batarian homeworld and the ancient city of Thondu. There were lots of things Kai Leng didn't like about the place, including the crowded streets, the asymmetrical architecture, and the food. But most of all he didn't like the batarians themselves. Not because so many of them were pirates, slavers, but because they were aliens and therefore a threat to the human race. That made him an extremist, no to mention a racist, and that was fine with Leng.
What?
This book is bad to the point where I know I could write a better one. On the fly.

It's so much that Dietz has a command of language as it is that when Dietz want to write something, English says "Are you really going to phrase it like that?"

It's so weird that this passed through BioWare and DelRey without anyone catching anything. It would make me feel better if they honestly didn't care to look to closely instead of thinking they genuinely didn't notice anything wrong. At least they're making the proper edits now, but it seems like the wrong time to do that after the book's already been released.
At least send an ARC to Karpyshyn and pay him to do some quick line edits. There's no excuse, really. xD

First sentence, if you ask me! I guess you're right. That first sentence doesn't exactly leave me desperate to hear more about the ancient city of Fondue.

Drew Karpyshyn just signed a deal with Del Rey to publish his original fantasy trilogy - and he has another SWTOR novel, Annihilation, due out at the end of the year. drewkarpyshyn.com/c/?p=388I'll be interested to see what he churns out when he doesn't have deadlines and multiple obligations to fall back on as an excuse. Though, I still haven't forgiven him for what he did to Revan. Never will.
