I started up Half-Life 2 again and finally got around to playing KOTOR (yeah, "Welcome a few years late to the party, woman!" I know. But it was on sale on Steam, so...). I'm having a harder time getting into KOTOR. Does the game eventually stop talking down to you at all? (I haven't gotten far.) It's been a few years since I played it, but I don't really remember being "talked down to" all that much... it does get much, much better once you're off the first planet though!

Well, Trask can be a little bad, when he and Carth blatantly point out game mechanics, it does get better once you leave Taris though, you get taken off the leash a little, and have a deal more freedom.
Speaking of which, I've been having a hard time playing any BioWare game lately, it's probably disappointment from DA2's reveal (note that my favourite player characters were both a Dwarf, and a Mage) but anytime I put a BioWare game in, the gameplay annoys me, the story seems tired and cliched and I turn it off within 15 minutes.
But last night, I managed to play from the start of the mage origin (my personal favourite) to the end of Ostagar. I'd forgot how fun being a mage was, especially the fireball spell!
You can throw a group of Darkspawn to the ground with a room sized blast of fire, and follow it up with some chain lighning, cackling like Palpatine as the die! Hooray!

How far are you, Chantress? I know Trask in the the tutorial talks down to you like crazy, ('If you need me to help put on your clothes, press the A button!') but once you get to exploring Taris that stops. And once you become a Jedi and leave for the main quest - that's when it becomes incredible. This is my very favourite videogame, so I have to defend it

(Off on his own tangent)
Well thanks to an idiot on Ebay, my copy of Red Dead Redemption is taking it's own sweet time getting here. But it's just as well, since I got the "Open Tray" error from my xbox 360 the day after I ordered RDR. So I'm stuck with ME2 and DAO/A (both of which are awesome games). I just finished an Assassin's Creed 2 phase, hence the return to the Mock Effect idea.

All three of those games are great. As someone named Clint with the Man With No Name as his avatar, I'd say you'll thoroughly enjoy Red Dead Redemption. Just a guess. xD

I haven't made it off of Taris yet (getting there, but haven't been able to really play for a few days), so that's good to know. Thanks!

I've mention before, I've started playing Deus Ex 1. So far my impression seem to be good but I haven't gone that far into the game yet due to uni.
Looking forward to play more when I catch a bit more time.
Also, I hope Deus Ex 3 is decent when it comes out, instead of being another sequel let down.

It was the best example of an open play FPS/RPG I've played yet. There are so many ways to achieve your objectives, and the storyline's pretty good too. I never played Deus Ex 2, but will give it a shot if I can ever pick it up. The trailer for Deus Ex 3 looks amazing, but I'll take the pretty movie shots with a pinch of salt and see what the real game play is like. I'm hopeful, though!

I'm not really into the Harry Potter series anymore (except for A Very Potter Musical XD) But I recently found my old copy of the Chamber of Secrets for PS2. It has to be one of the first games that was released for the PS2 (I was barely 13 when I got this game I think)
It feels weird playing it. It has what is quite possibly the most godawful voiceacting to be put into a game, but is narrated by Stephen Fry. That causes a fair bit of quality whiplash. I think it's going on the so bad it's good pile, along with Alone in the Dark and Dynasty Warriors.
Also I found out something quite interesting (no pun intended) on Wikipedia. You know how the film is so long it's being split into 2 films? EA are doing the same with the tie-in games. Selling 2 games to cover one book. Now that is a dick move. I understand why they have to do it with the films, (it was a fairly long book with a lot of plot important crap) you can't have a 6 hour film, obviously, but you could easily cram that much story into a 20 hour game.

But it's EA. What did you expect?

Nothing really, I'm not surprised by EA at all.
I saw the Deus Ex 3 Trailer. While I'm still taking the grain of salt, I've really impressed by it so far... let's just hope the game is actually good as the trailer in terms of storytelling.
Speaking of the devil, Warren Spector, the guy who created Deus Ex series, is working on a recent game called Epic Mickey. If I have a Wii Console, I would check that game out.

I'm not playing this game per se, but I am watching it on YouTube. It's called The Path and it's definitely not something you wanna watch at night. It's just way too eerie.

I bought The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena a week ago, and I'm really liking it. Actually: I'm really liking it, and I haven't even played the game yet, since it also came with a remake of Escape from Butcher Bay. I'm typically not bothered by FPS's, but this one is something special. I just love the universe they made around Riddick. =D
