Hey, it's still summer! What video games have been playing?
I just got done with Prince of Persia. If nothing else, the twenty dollars I paid for it was worth the amazing visuals. xD

Well aside from still tampering with Alpha protocol, I am trying to pick up on X3 Reunion. Emphasis on try. I'll be plunking away at it for a bit. A poison I have not quite gotten out of my blood is the Star Wolves trilogy. Some of you guys might be under the impression by now that I have a fetish for games with potential nearly ruined by flaws. guilty as charged. Bad english translations, a few bugs and wonky navigation. they are also cracking good tactical/RPG space merc type games. The idea is you are a the leader of a group of fighter pilots who serve as mercenaries or in the case of the 3rd game armed to the teeth merchants, using a mothership as a mobile base who get involved in conflicts far larger than themselves for fun and profit. Each of the games have multiple endings, 4 pilot specializations for your custom character and a carrier full of equipment options ranging from bread and butter laser and kinetic weapon, to remote repair systems/anti-missile systems and a shedload more. yeah i am blathering a bit, but when a small independent developer puts out a different quality product I like to give them a plug. ;D

I got Alan Wake preowned last week. The gameplay can be a bit samey, but it's otherwise brilliant. The story is excellent, the setting is like no other game's, and the characters are great, especially Alan's literary agent, Barry. One of the aspects of it I enjoyed was these manuscript pages Alan finds, that seem to describe what's happening to him, and sometimes show plot points before they happen, and they use Alan's facial model for loads of things in-game, including an appearance on a talk show, and other, more plot relevant stuff.
It's got a great soundtrack as well, from the background music, to songs specifically written for the game, and it ends with a David Bowie song!
The ending was vague and confusing, but I don't mind, as it left a clear path for a sequel. A free DLC comes out next month which actually continues the main story as well.

Fallout 3 - I really need to beat it. Haven't done it at all for some reason.
Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising - Pretty damn fun.

just got Dragon Age: Origins. Not at all what I was expecting, but still fun. Graphics make me frown though. Looks like a first gen XBox game. And there is WAY to much chit-chat.
That said, I can't talk to a dwarf with out laughing. "Imma gonna fall into dah sky." My dwarf rouge looks like Mr.T, and looks hilarious standing next to the dog. I needed a good Dungeons and Dragons type RPG any way. Just with the level cap was higher, and that you could restart your story after you beat the game.

Playing Bayonetta atm. Much to my surprise and delight, I've actually enjoy this game. Say what you will about the tacky content in it and the constant non-stop bitching from "feminist" gamers about the female portrayal in this game but I've enjoyed it, like a guilty pleasures of sorts. It's like reading twilight as a girl but minus the shame, I won't be afraid to brag about it when I get back to uni after this mid year break. Although some of the parts do remind me of Okami... which is a plus for me.
Another game I'm working on is Brutal Legend. It's an interesting game, very different to most games on the market atm but I like unusual games. Plus it's made by Tim Shafer. I like Psychonauts but it's kinda hard for me to get into the game atm but I'm getting there. Don't get me wrong, I've actually like it when I've first picked up the controller and the humour is good. Just the driving bit gets into me but I'll get use to it.
Also while having a fetish for flaw games, as you guys might have guess it by now, I'm playing FFXIII atm. I can't exactly say I hate that game but when it comes to JRPGS, I personally not recommend it. As I've said before, the story is confusing if you don't read the datalogs often, which is not a good thing when it comes to storytelling. It's even much more confusing than Bayonetta, that's really sad considering Square-Enix used to be one of the decent storytellers for JRPGs. Combat system is alright but it could have something more, but instead it's a messed up turn based combat system mixed.
A few people complain about being linear and stuff, well Bayonetta is linear for me so far and it's still enjoyable, I suppose it's the presentation and the restrictions within the input of the player kinda jarring to most gamers and reviewers, ruining that illusion of freedom. Or it's probably the running down corridors sections reminds of Too Human too much. Either way, say what you will about the developers intentions with the game at the time, I still not recommend that game. To be honest, Pokemon Heartgold is much more fun and immersive than this game as JRPG... kinda sad.
Anyways I'm going back to Bayonetta.

Bayonetta, hey? I might rent that.
I just played through 'Professor Layton and the Curious Village'. I know I'm several years late to that, but I've always been curious.
Very good game, I have to say. Sometimes I got sick to death of the puzzles ('Before I open this door for you, you must solve my puzzle!' 'Oh no, he's been shot! That reminds me of a puzzle...') but it's a puzzle game, so I can't really complain about too much content. I really enjoyed the mixture of mystery-style storytelling, exploration and maths problems. It's a very unusual kind of game, but it's clear the people who made it really put their all into it. I won't bother with the sequels, because I don't have any patience and it frequently made me scream in frustration. There was one fat villager who was always pissed off because he can't solve puzzles. I felt like the game was directly mocking me whenever he was around.
Also I love the wierd blend of Japanese and English culture. It was so strange to see people talking like characters from a Zelda game, but with English slang and accents. And top hats.

Having just finished my first playthrough of ME2, I'm alternating between another run through ME & online NWN on the EfU PW. EB games has just Dragon Age to $57AUS this week so I think I'll be picking that up at last too. I don't get much time each day to myself to play, but I try to make the most of it.

I only paid $20us for Brutal Legend. It was worth it to me. I wouldn't pay full price though. The first quarter of the game kicks all kinds of ass. As do the RTS style battle sequences. All the rest just seems like filler.
Being a fan of heavy metal music, I find it equal parts awesome, funny, and irritating. Laser Panthers = Metal. Headbanger guys = funny. Cartoon Ozzy Osborn bat = cringe inducing embarrassment.
Also if you get a change, do the multiplayer portion of the game and play as the tainted coil. Some of the dialog is, disturbing. Yet completely awesome. For all the celebrity voice acting that the game had, I think Tim Cury had the best performance. You have to respect a man who can deliver a line like "Begin the tainted gestation!' and creep you out on a deep level.
That said, I think they should have found some one other then Jack Black to do the lead. He performance was dull and emotionless, or obnoxious and stupid. I don't think he took it seriously. Same thing goes for Killmaster. (the guy from Motorhead) You can hear the disinterest in his voice. Which is fine, but why cast him if he's going to do a piss poor job? Just find some one else.
Also, paid like $10us for Too Human. Still wouldn't recommend it unless you're really into cheesy sci-fi adaptations of viking mythology. I just make the voice overs Japanese or German, drastically improves the game.

Oh man... speaking of the devil, I've played Too Human last year, and it was torturous to me at best. I was trying to find a positive element with the game but I've end it up getting pissed off. It didn't helped the game ends on a cliffhanger, which is the last straw for me. I know, ME2 has a cliffhanger but at least it's partly resolved in some way. Too Human has too many gaps and more questions than the ending can provide. Spoiler alert: What are the motives that Asir are planning on? Why they need to resurrect Baldur back from the dead? Are they trying to drop an anvil somewhere about being not so different with the machine demons? Do I really need to care about this? It didn't helped that somewhere a while ago, Denis Dyack bitched about cliffhanger endings and how designers should not put in. Hypocrisy much?
I've tried playing the game in a DMC style but it didn't work. Then I've heard it somewhere in some interview with Denis Dyack that he recommends approaching in a diablo sort of a way. So I've tried and still die a lot. So really, did I do something wrong? Anyways, it feels more like a stick masher than Bayonetta, since I can't do any sort of reflexes and strategical actions within the game. You just jump in and hit stuff till they die.
So yeah, take renegade's word for it.

I haven't played it, but I know Too Human was in development for about 10 years, then got 4/10 in a lot of reviews when it was finally released. That had too be disappointing for people who'd been waiting for the best game of all time.

Been meaning to play Bayonetta, it sounds ace. Other than another ME2 playthrough, I'm playing Super Street Fighter IV - top game if you like that sort of thing. Also spent a bit of time on the Halo Reach Beta, and was impressed. Afterburner Climax is cool - I've been waiting for a home version for a while. Though is obviously missing the simulated arcade cab.
Would like to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 and No More Heroes 2, since I really liked both originals. But struggling to find the time at the moment.

I played the Bayonetta demo awhile ago and was really impressed. Not what I had expected at all.
Pretty much done with Red Dead Redemption for now, same with the new Prince of Persia. Picked up the old Fallout Trilogy for $10, so I'll probably mess around with that for a while until I get my $10 copy of Bioshock in the mail.
I'm getting kinda depressed because I won't really have anything to play until Fable III comes out in October. =(

I was trying to find a positive element with the game but I've end it up getting pissed off. Um, the combat controls are unique, and sort of fun when you get the hang of it? Human/Berserker is the way to go, the flurishes or whatever are brutal and recharge a lot quicker. I kind of liked some of the bosses to, sort of. I think the game was planned as a trilogy originally. But since it was so ... they ditched that idea. Another cheep game to avoid is The Darkness. Oh my god did that game annoy the shit out of me. I assume most of you hate rail shooters any way, but I kind of like them. Good 'ol days and such. But this, you shoot more light bulbs then enemys. Seriously, it has to be dark or your powers wont recharge. But if you don't mind rail shooters check or Prey. Its $10, either 3D Realms or ID, can't remember which. Its the Doom 3 engine so the graphics are a bit dated but its good old school rail shooting fun. And there's Just Cause 1 for open world. The main story is only like 12 missions, but its pretty cool. And there are like 300+ side missions to free the rest of the island from the evil government forces. Its a bit glitchy, and the graphics are a little bland, but its cheep. Just turn the music off, unless you're into that weird fast paced latin noise stuff. I'm not sure what kind of music it is. And I'm going to stick up for Mercenarys 2. Yeah it could have been A LOT better, but I liked it. If you can't have fun with and endless supply of air strikes, such as the nuclear bunker buster, then you're not trying hard enough. I could talk about bargain bin games all day, since thats over half my collection God bless the cheep asses of the world.

Fair enough, at least they have integrity to try something different. I think I've played as a human/berserker last time, the last quarter of it does kinda gets better due to the gear and the specs. I do love the flurishes moves though, quite satisfying to summon a bear avatar in the middle of a robot zombie horde. Certain enemies are still irritating though, since for some reason I've still get hit despite the fact I've been trying to dodge some of the attacks. Soundtrack is good though from what I have last remembered.
So yeah... there are a few positive aspects of it but unfortunately the flaws kinda outweigh my experience at the time, hence my memories of the game does get a little fuzzy sometimes.
Anyways, what other games did you picked up from the bargain bin Renegade?
