Does anyone else do this? When you're reading a story or a novel, will you sometimes 'cast' famous actors as the characters, to get a solid idea of how they look at any given time? I do this fairly often, though sometimes I will read a whole book without doing it once. It's wierd.
Right now I'm enjoying this Star Wars book, where I have Ian McKellen as the villain and Megan Fox of all people as the love interest. Sometimes I will actually find myself doing a little Ian McKellen impression under my breath when the guy has dialogue.

... I'm pretty sure I have never done this. Sounds like a pretty neat idea though. I may try it, if I can ever be bothered to read a book...

No kidding? I thought I was the only one who did this.
I constantly imagine books or even fanfiction as movies, even having directors in mind, unless it's very well written like James Joyce and it becomes a mind trip more than anything else. In the Mass Effect novels I had Keith David as Anderson (of course), a younger Jodie Foster as Kahlee Sanders, and Ron Perlman as the voice of the krogan assassin.

Sometimes depending the description of the characters. Normally I like to imagine the character from my imagination than putting celebrities in it, I don't know why but I don't particularly get into actors that much. Really.

Tillian and Cali - I'm glad it's not just me.
I never imagined anyone for the Mass Effect book- possibly because I didn't really get into it, but Anderson and Saren were, of course, easy enough to visualise.

I do, but it depends on a few things. Sometimes I just insert an actor when the author has sorta shrugged off the details. I did that with the Darth Bane novel and for Mass Effect: Revelation I did the same thing Cali did and inserted Keith David for Anderson.
Seriously, if that Mass Effect movie ever gets made, I'll cry if he's not Anderson. ><
And for the other Star Wars novels I've read, I just insert the actors from the movies.
For most of my fantasy reads, I can't do this, though. It just feels too weird and out of place sometimes. Kills the illusion, lol.

Well, I had just seen Transformers 2, so I naturally replaced Githany with Megan Fox (sounds like that's what you did as well, xD). Bane with Channing Tatum from that upcoming G.I. Joe movie. I'm pretty sure I used Ricardo Montalban as Lord Kaaaaan, just because, lol.

I'm resurrecting a thread here. CLEAR!: Does anyone ever do this with characters in stories they're writing? I have a character I can't imagine as anyone else but Joe Don Baker (of MST3K fame). But honestly, is there anyone who oozes 'corrupt cop' more than this guy?:

Adding a few ccs of adrenaline to help stabilize the patient. Charging, charging...CLEAR!
Depends on the character in question. If there is an actor I know that that fits the character perfectly then yes. If not then I can just as easily paint my own impression of what they look like. If there is no real life match then my brain just rejects it. If there is though then my brain won't let it go.

Interestingly, I never do this anymore. I forgot about this thread until the medical ressurection, here, and it's curious for me to re-read it. I did insert Morgan Freeman into a Star Wars book fairly recently, but even then, it didn't last and he ended up being a fat white man instead.

Well that says tons about the writer's ability to paint a physical description of the character. Going from Morgan Freeman to fat white guy is a pretty radical shift and basically tells me the writer did not do squat to set an appearance at all.

It was a pretty minor character, and this book had a TON of characters and plotlines.

Ok I'll give him that, but white and fat to black and lean, unless you have one speaking line only it's pretty hard to give that little...
