So, does anyone have to go and look up some of the stuff on Wikipedia and other places when writing stories? I know I have both in my original works and fan fiction.
For fan fiction, I have to play Mass Effect again, this with having Liara in the majority of the run through, so I could get the sense where her persona is coming from. Also I have to follow my mother around and observe mothers and their children out in the city so I get the feel of motherly love. That's for "Little Wing". Then there's the subtle prejudice treatment I'm still looking through and thinking about for the next couple of chapters... yeah, that's why writing Little Wing took a lot longer due to the difficulty.
For "Mindoir's Lullaby" I have to look through some of the posttruama stress disorder on the wikipedia and it's terminology since I'm trying to make the story more believable and less overly melodramatic, plus I didn't want to make the character Fillinger sounded like he doesn't know a goddamn thing about medicine.
Well for my original works I have to look up a lot of crap including steampunk technology for "Empires in Fragments" and studying the Princess Doe case for "Portrait of her own Reflection."
I know it's sounds I should wind back and relax, saying "This is only fiction." However, I didn't want the readers to be jarred from the disbelief and calling me out "You didn't do research Till!" Especially after lots of people called out on SMeyer after she did not do research about the small town of Folks for her Twitard books but also she called out for things like, "You FAIL at biology forever!"
So yeah, did you guys do research?
