Notre-Dame de Paris in FlamesNotre Dame Cathedral is on fire. This is so heartbreaking - such a beautiful, historic, architectural masterpiece, it is horrible to see this happening. Thankfully, it seems no one was hurt, and I read that the works of art were saved: But watching the video of the spire, and the roof, collapsing - I had tears in my eyes. I hope they can restore this beautiful cathedral...

I have been reading what reports have been circulating. The roof and spire are gone, but the stone elements are all in ok shape (they were showing signs of age anyway, so determining what the fire caused may be tricky. The Sculptures normally in the spire weren't there because of the restoration work. If anything, this will revitalize the rebuilding fund. Not that it wasn't hard to watch.

It was devastating to watch - but what I found heartwarming was that some of France's billionaires have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars to the restoration fund, to help rebuild the Cathedral - I find that really nice, it's so nice in today's world to read about people doing NICE things... so much in the news is bad. And I really hope the restoration can happen as soon and as thoroughly as possible, since Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most beautiful structures in the world, and it would be horrific if it could not be fixed.
