I gotta admit, reading up on history can be entertaining at times, sometimes more so than fiction.
Recently, I've learned about Jane Stanford, wife of Leland Stanford and co. founder of the Stanford University; she was murdered via by poison. And the founding president tried to cover the whole thing up. The worse part is that he would be the suspect, due to his motives in keeping his presidential seat, since Jane wanted to fire him. It doesn't help matters that they did not get along well.
Anyway, the point is history can be interesting. Thoughts on about history?

Well, remember when US President Woodrow Wilson had a stroke while in office and was unable to perform his duties? Well, his executive duties were handed over, obviously, to his Vice President, Thomas Marshall... Right? WHAT?!! THE FIRST LADY TOOK OVER THE PRESIDENTIAL DUTIES?!! That’s right. Meet Edith Bolling Wilson: technically the first female president of the United States. Due to the fact that Edith had access to plans and paperwork the rest of the cabinet didn’t, as well as the belief that she knew him better than anybody else and would have a better understanding of his would be executive decisions, the cabinet basically said she should run the show for the latter part of the term. Now THAT’S stranger than fiction!

There was an incident towards the end of World War II (2 days before VE Day) where a mixed group of US Army, French Resistance, Austrian Resistance, Wehrmacht, and Waffen SS troops joined forces to repel an assault from between 150-200 Waffen SS attempting to capture an important castle/strategic point/prison. The battle results wound up being pretty one-sided: 4 wounded, 1 dead, 1 Sherman Tank destroyed on the defenders' side vs an estimated several dozen dead on the attacking side. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_for_Castle_Itter

I hear stranger battles in real life than that, such as this one particular battle during WWI in Africa, where the British force lost that battle because someone shot a beehive and the bees attack them.

So what you're saying is shooting beehives in MGS 3 to get rid of pesky guards is a valid tactic? Joking aside, African bees are incredibly vicious and aggressive. The "killer bees" that get mentioned every so often in pop culture or the news are actually either African bees imported to the Americas or deliberately bred African/European hybrids. About the only good thing is that they can only sting you once unlike wasps/hornets/yellow jackets... but when you have an en masse attack from a pissed-off hive, that is a bit of a moot point.
