Windows 10. That's all.
Alright I explain more. I hear nothing but hassling things about it. Even there's workarounds, it's still too much work to make things running smoothly from a scrub like me. For all the time I'm forced to troubleshoot to get Skyrim to even working properly, I could be using the time to play the game instead.
And they are extending the lifetime of windows 7 to 2020, so I have no reason to switch ships. Anyways, by then there would be a different windows where I might pick up this time.

Only problem with staying with win 7 is that it does not have support for DX 12 or higher. That's why I switched. I've nearly fully found all the mines this piece of work has laid out for me. The biggest one being that when it has a major update it tends to replace my network drivers (which are the ones that come with my hardware and make it work) with generic universal ones that don't do shit for me. So now I have the folder for the correct drivers right on my desktop for the next time this shitty OS does that.
The stalkier stuff that it comes with can be disabled.
I'm not sure how much I believe them, but they are claiming to not have any further OS releases, so i am expecting that it's going to be Win 10 for quite a while.

True. Still I prefer to wait until 2020 rolled in first. Until I see a few games I like that does not run windows 7, I don't mind the lack of support for DX 12. Right now I've cared about is playing old games and running art programs well.
I hear certain older games won't run on Windows 10, so there's that. And also with Skyrim, Windows 10 won't allow the usage of SweetFX in certain ENB setups and limiting memory resources. So yeah, another reason I won't be jumping ship soonish for now.
If I'm going to forced to use Windows 10, it will be on a different PC and it won't be my main. I'm starting to sound like George R.R Martin, where he prefers a very old PC setup for his writings and having a separate PC to do daily browsing and what not.

That might be a configuration thing. I have not yet really run into too many games that completely fail to play nice. Hell, I got a couple of 16 year old ones that run like a top with compatibility mode on.
KoTOR and KoTOR 2 had a shite time on win 7 requiring a 2 or three page guide to make work, still it was possible with the right tweaks.

Probably. I gotta admit I like my current Skyrim setup as it is. I don't want to redo the whole thing again if I jump to Windows 10. Running skyrim with no ENB and just 1k textures are fine. but I'm running a setup that goes around 2-4k of textures, with a ENB setup that uses SweetFX. Windows 10 disregards SweetFX and GPU memory so much that the author who did my ENB preset of choice, had to make a separate ENB configurations for Windows 10 users.
I will make the jump eventually, but not today.

I get you. I'm just making the point that Win 10 is almost fit for human consumption. People like to rag on Windows for buggy releases a lot but for god's sake there are around 4 or 5 billion windows machines out there and each one is slightly different from the others. The one thing Mac has right is a standardized set up that makes it easy to put together an OS that doesn't glitch quite as much. That's why people think Apple does a better job at it. I contend they would fall flat on their faces if they allowed an open hardware configuration for Mac machines in the way that Windows boxes are set up.
If I see a significant update go through that does not screw around with my drivers i will take that as a sign that they are starting to settle down a bit. I'll post when I can go about 6 months without having to reinstall them. There was supposedly a way to keep update from doing that but damned if the menu options are anywhere near where the guides I looked at said they were.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm sure some people enjoyed Windows 10, but yeah the whole reinstall thing is a bit too much work. And like all things, always wait until things have smoothed out. That's always been my strategy when it comes to updating software such as OS. Even it I took it slow with Windows 7 at the time, be the nature of software, they tend to have rough bugs on releases.

I early adapted to get around the cost and hassle really. It was a learning experience as I had not previously used an OS at launch. For much the same reasons you cited. Frankly, compared to the horror stories I heard about vista at launch this was a breeze.

Kinda drowsy this morning. I'm trying melatonin to help my sleep be a little more solid but have not yet drilled down on the dose. A bad bought of insomnia last week kinda drove me to it and after over 20 years of this shit I've had enough. If this doesn't work, I'm gonna need to seek some help for it.

We don't get that up here, the Canadian version was pretty entertaining during the Cretien years (watching a man with serious speech impediment talk circles around the mental midgets he was competing with was pure gold), not so much now.

Got my knuckles sore again after a round of Rogue Legacy.
Had that same problem when I was playing Bayonetta a few years back. Somewhere during my recovery, I forgot to go back to finish it.

Another Windows 10 related one for me.
Dear Microsoft, I understand you very much want me to allow updates to occur. That's why I had no issue with a polite reminder to schedule a reboot to install them. Please understand though that shutting off my mouse and keyboard drivers forcing a hard reset does not not constitute a polite reminder. Also, please do not screw around with security programs that I have chosen to install.
Thank you, signed all of us.
