Remember I've mention I want to write a story about a cop and his ghost partner, who was a Jane Doe that could not remember her identity and she needed his help. Well I'm taking it off the backburner and I'm going to write my first draft comic script pretty soon. What stops me that I'm really stumped in finding resources about the Police occupation. From I've seen so far in my lurking session in the Doe Network site, real crime stuff, web sleuths, re-reading Frank Bender's biography, etc; detective work is much more complicated than what the media portray. And mmotionally draining at times.
Hence, I would really like some help in getting pointed at the right direction so I can start working on it.

What might be worth pursuing there till is getting into contact with your local police and seeing if they would allow for a ride along. I'm pretty sure many precincts allow for these where you can kind of tag along in a cruiser for a shift or part of a shift and it would allow some one on one time to ask questions about their work. Worst that can happen is they say no.

I'm not so sure. I mean there's a reason why the police aren't that open about the cases they are working on, especially hot cases.

True, but protagonist I'm writing about is a detective working on homicide cases. Particularly the cold cases.
I think I need to find that Frank Bender bio book again. I don't where I've misplaced it...

Don't ask about specific cases Ask about the basics protocol How evidence leads on in different directions, lines of enquiry etc

Maybe ask reporters? Some seem to have an inkling on police procedure.

Perhaps. Also another thing I was wondering for a long time now, which it's really hard for me to get some accurate info is how the cops deal with cases in everyday life. I know not all cops were emotionally drained and some even have a healthy family life perhaps. So yeah.

Not sure they have them in Australia, but here in the US we have citizen's police academies that teach local citizens about what it's like to be a cop. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen's_Police_Academy

That's seemed like a good idea, why I didn't think of that. I should check it out if Australia has one. Although I do recalled in my childhood, my school went on a excursion tour to a police academy. So there's that I think...
