Hello. My pen name is "Peppadew". I am currently writing a Mass Effect fanfiction, about 4,000 words into the first chapter. I first joined the Mass Effect universe when I began to play ME2. Enjoying it so much, I tried out ME1, then eventually ME3. I always play as a FemShep. I consider myself an avid gamer. I play a variety of games: CS:GO, Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, the Sims 4, to name a recent few. I enjoy writing and consider it a life long love. I write and game when I can, which is sometimes hard to do since I work full time (budget analyst for an insurance company) and taking evening classes for my MBA (*finally* graduating this May). Once I graduate, I look forward to more writing time. I have lived in New Jersey and Texas, but currently live in Ohio with my husband and two cats. We enjoy watching movies and are huge Battlestar Galatica fans, as well as Game of Thrones fans. I read avidly as well. I am currently rereading GRRM's Game of Thrones series for the second time, along with the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (her writing ability is amazing). I'm also a nature fanatic and love to walk and hike. If I were to imagine my "perfect life" it would go something like this: the whole morning spent hiking out in the green world, coming home to a cabin in the woods to cook and eat, then sitting down to an afternoon of writing, and finally ending the day with some video games. Oh, and my husband somewhere in there, too. Ba haha ha! Thank you for reading. Happy New Year!
P.S. I am "Peppadew' on the FanFiction dot net website. I have not yet posted anything there yet, but will. I googled Mass Effect fanfiction and found this website, and so thought it would be another great place to share my work. I am also considering posting a personal blog, if only to incorporate screenshots (which aren't "necessary" but may be just fun to do), but haven't decided yet. I am a slow writer, with bursts of inspiration/creativity that sometimes speed things up. I write from the heart, and my story will be a romance story first, and an adventure/action story second. I use "game lore" as inspiration, but I am not trying to stick to "canon" 100 percent. I am aiming first and foremost to write an interesting story, to have fun, and to practice my writing skills. I appreciate feedback and comments. I'm happy to be here.
Edit: Posted Chapter 1!

Have fun? What about Mass Effect makes you think it's about fun?
JK. Nice to have you.

Nice to meet you, welcome and all that!
I'm a slow writer too. And also always play femshep. It's the voice, right? She nails it.

@clint Johnston When you mentioned fun, it reminded me of something I once read on Alastair Reynolds' blog (he is one of my favorite authors) and I had to share it...

He's right. A lot of times writing is *not* fun, but there are moments where it feels like the best part of my life. Weird euphoria. Some days it feels like a curse, like why do I feel compelled to want to write, why do I feel down if I'm *not* forcing myself to write? All I know is that it's something I need to do... even if it's just fanfiction, even if it's just "practicing"...
@mister Buch Jennifer Hale's voice acting was definitely amazing. I was glad she got more recognition during all that ME3 advertising. FemShep got on the box! I do, however, usually play females in video games if I have a choice, since I am one. I have tried to play males. I think the only one I really like was one of my Dark Elf characters from my Morrowind gaming days, haha! Honestly, there's not much difference. In a writer's world, male and female are just different viewpoints to consider.
@raid boss gorvar Hello to you, too! Ah, I am a Trekkie, too. (Saw your signature about Star Trek).
Thank you all for your kind welcome.
Question: is there a forum restriction on the length of individual posts? Are people forced to break up large chapters (like in the fanfiction subforum?). Thanks.

JK Linders would be the man to ask there - the moderator. We are usually very lax with rules though.

Welcome. I'm the resident metal-head and as my avatar shows, a huge trekkie. Also working on joining the Mandalorian Mercs so I'm an equal-opportunity nerd.

Welcome, welcome! Nice to see another Game of Thrones fan, as well! And a cat-lover, too! You're gonna fit in here just fine... I'm Lily, the resident crazy-kitten-obsessor, my avatar doesn't show it now but this is the first time I've had a non-kitten avatar since I first joined the forum... As for chapter-size or post size rules, Linders can answer that better when he comes home from work, but... I was under the impression that chapters can be as long or short as you want to make them. But don't necessarily take my word for it; Linders really is the best person to ask - he can check for any length requirements or restrictions that may or may not exist. I will say, though, from a reader's perspective, long chapters in stories are always nice!

@issac R. Madden2 Hi there! I'm a huge trekkie, too. I love Captain Picard (I "met" him at a Comic Con in Ohio! Got myself a picture of us standing together, and I, of course, had a ridiculously goofy smile on my face). Thanks for the welcome!
@lily Ariel Black50 Hi there! Yes, I adore cats. I have a tortie and a gray tabby. Thanks for the welcome!
About the chapter sizes, that's great if there's no limit. I'm a tad long-winded, heh. But I just read that italics don't copy over, so this may take me some time to add my Chapter 1. (Edit: Posted now!) I have just uploaded it to the FanFiction dot net website however!
I hope it's OK I am making the font a little large. Old lady eyes.
Edit: Another Question: Can I / How do I link to a specific post in a thread? (For purposes of a Table of Contents).

Hi Peppadew, welcome to the forum.
I have no rules or restrictions on post length for posts especially when it comes to posting chapters. If there is a setting restricting post length I am embarrassed to admit I cannot find one. I know that there is a very very large amount of latitude given here on the forum structure for post length.
I'd recommend breaking up very long chapters for ease of reading and picking back up on it though. Reading from a computer screen being far different than using a book or e-reader after all.
As for linking directly to a post here is a quote directly from ProBoards help on that.
"There might be times where you would like to link directly to a specific post, either to share the post with someone else, or to use the post as a reference rather than sharing an entire thread. To accomplish this, once you see a post that you would like to link directly to, locate the Post Options drop-down menu in the top-right hand corner of the post. Click on this menu and then click the Link to Post option. Once selected, a pop up menu will display providing two different web addresses.
The top address for Link to this post in this thread will direct you to the specific post within the topic. This will allow anyone that uses the link to see the linked post directly, but will also have the option to read other posts within the topic. The second link provided for Link to only this post will only display the post that is linked to on its own page. No other posts from the thread will display, ensuring that the post linked to will receive full attention."
Hope this helps and thanks for joining up with our merry band.

jklinders Thank you! I figured out where the "Link to Post" was - exactly what I was looking for!

jklinders Thanks. Hmm, just thought of a question... about rating our fanfiction. Our we using the same general rating system as I see on the fanfiction dot net website? Do you have a rating system described somewhere on the forum? Thanks! Like Rated T, or M...
Think I'll go with M to be safe.

Nothing really formal here.
Best to let us know if there are sex or violence. That will let potential readers know all they need to.
