I know this is off topic but I actually did find a awesome crossover between Halo and Mass Effect. The premise totally make sense where the UNSC and the Covenant Seperatists both find a mass effect relay and both factions get involved in the First Contact War, actually called the second contact war because of the Human-Covenant War. The Arbiter has a guest appearance in this. www.fanfiction.net/s/6376514/1/Mass_Effect_New_Origins_V2There are cool differences like the UNSC accepting the Quarian Fleet on one of their colonies (I think it's Eden Prime) and going up against the Citadel as a prime political faction. The way both the UNSc and the Elites refuse the invitation to join the citadel is just way beyond awesome. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Okay, Tillian, as long as it's only about Shepard being too submissive and meek I think we can agree on that it's a very bad and rotten characterization at least. No real disagreement there. As said, I just upheld the notion of free characterization of Shepard for the sake of my own fic , where Shepard leaves the in-game trails on the other side: More stubborn, more heated, at times working against Council and Alliance if need be. I think it's simpler. People go for the adorable, nerdy character. And derail her character to hell and back because that's IMO not really the primary facet of her personality - definitely not in ME2, but not in ME1, either. It's Flanderization, as TVTropes calls it.

I see what you mean Octo, but as glow said, in every Shepard you play, there's only one defining character that stands out in all Shepards... She's an all-round badass who is not an apologist. That goes double for femsheps. This is one of the reasons why some fans rebuked at the idea of a submissive!Shep, especially most female demographic. The only time the female fans wouldn't mind it from my observation so far is a smutty fic that involves a BDSM session... even then, that's kinda rare. However, you are right at one point that you can define your Shepard character in your own personal preference, however, it's limited. So It's more of a yes and a no answer about Shepard's canon personality. I do admit, I kinda dance on the limit line with my Shepard in the White Rose fic. Honestly, for me personally, I like my Shepard as a type who likes to take charge, whether on the battlefield or in bed. It's a all depends on personal taste. And speaking of that other cookie cutter fics that involves mixing sappy twlight romance in ME... ugh... that sounds awful Meiron. I need to cleanse the platte with another fan fic up my sleeves I'm starting to work on. White Rose of the Normandy isn't enough. I think I go something like Zakera Noire or something... something Neo-Noir... Being a member of the military (USAF), I agree with Shepard being an alpha personality. You don't get to hold the rank of Commander before the age of thirty without being the take charge type. Especially if we're talking women officers. Everytime I think of FemShep I picture a strong woman who can go from zero to ultimate she-bitch in under a second if you hit the wrong buttons on her. 'Course I'm attracted to tough women so that could be skewing my perspective a bit... xD

Ok, I don't mind someone characterised Shepard who likes bubble baths, citing poetry, taking a few notes from Nietzsche or whatever interest and traits you want to add. I've seen interesting take on Shepards in the fan fic realm before, to the point that I'm used to it. The only thing when I see red in a Shepard fan fic is a meek and submissive Shepard, that has the intention to stay in the kitchen. That crosses in the line in my eyes.. Otherwise I'm relaxed on different takes on other Shepards, especially yours. And we'll all agree to the non-badass Shepard is not a good thing.

Small question, how many of you guys made your Shepard's Earthborn? I dunno, i'm always the guy who loves this stupid rock we're living on, even in the future.

Earthborn Soul survivor for me. I basically rolled the default Shepard.

A few good chunk of people took the earthborn Shepard, mine included. (I have more than one shepard btw...)
The question is how many people pick a Spacer Shepard?

I think my cousin has picked spacer, says he based his Shepard on a Star Trek character, cant recall who..... I think it's because Earth is easy to identify with. And with the War Hero perk means your already a abd ass before the game even started.

All the Shepard options are bad ass before the game even begins. N is the Alliance designation for the marine spec ops and 7 indicates the highest level of competency they measure for. In the Alliance it gets no badder ass than that. *shrugs* That's how I see it anyway.

I don't like Spacer, to be honest. Military family and all that jazz? Eh, it's a bit too standard hero background, so to say. Then rather a background in the dirty streets of some Earth metropolis Or surviving a brutal batarian slavery raid. Storywise I like Earthborn/War Hero - Shepard shows the Galaxy what an Earth street kid is capable of! Unfortunately, it's one of the combinations with the fewest starting morality points. Colonist/Ruthless is nice, too - Shepard gets revenge on the batarians at any cost.

My primary Shepard is a Spacer/Sole Survivor. Seems to have the best fit for how I see him. (Yes, I play MShep. I don't mind the VA since I've heard far worse *cough*Heavy Rain*cough*)

I prefer the Mark Meer to Hale but both did really well. They actually made 2 different Shepard's from their different deliveries. Meer goes for the professional clipped angle or sneering badass. Hale uses more emotion to get her point across.
I heard Meer first so that is what I latched on to.

I love Hale's voice acting, but i cant play a female character at all. Not even in WoW I can last ten levels of playing a female character. just makes me feel...icky.

Hale uses more emotion to get her point across. There's a difference between sounding professional and sounding emotionless. I think my main dislike of his voice stems from the fact I always found Mark Meer to sound too "professional" when talking to friends/romance options and the like. And besides, how many Avatars did Meer voice? (Fun fact: I had no idea Shepard spoke when I first got Mass Effect 1. On my first game, I decided to create a character who, to the best of my ability, resembled Samuel L. Jackson. I was patting myself on the back for a job well done, when I picked the first dialogue option and the voice of some boring canadian guy came out of his mouth. I wasn't best pleased...) Funny you should mention that. Despite my preference for the female version of the character, due to the pervasive use of MaleShep and his voice in the marketing for the games, I can't help but think of the character as male. Whereas I never even bothered to try MaleHawke during my time with Dragon Age 2, and though he's in all the trailers, scowling his face off, he never talks. And now I can't think of Hawke as anything other than an incredibly smug woman in a funny dressing gown!
