Last warning! SPOILERS!!!!!!
I was not expecting both of them to survive. Kohle seemed doomed. Loved the old fort idea for the evil lair. Woody Harrelson's character wasn't as fun as I would have liked (Though I think they had to do that bedside scene a few times, because I caught him smirking as camera cut away). M. McM aced it. I also really liked him in Mud from last year. Seriously considering seeing Dallas Buyers club.

Thing I don't get is how the hell Kohle survived as long as he did with a wound that ugly. That had to be one PAINFUL car/helicopter ride.

Yeah, stomach wounds are painful as fuck.
Gotta admit, Childress could have been a forest troll in WarCraft II due to his axe throwing skills. That was a pretty impressive hatchet toss he nailed Hart with, especially since the latter literally ran into that cistern blasting, and the reaction time had to have been something else.
That final scene with them leaving the hospital, that last conversation is one of those TV/movie moments I'm likely going to be thinking about for the rest of my life.

So according to Nic Pizzolatto, Season 2 will be about "hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system." SPOOKY SCARY SKELETON BUS DRIVERS CONFIRMED FOR GIVING THE TRUE DETECTIVES A THOROUGH SPOOKING IN SEASON 2! Also, it's probably going to be in California and there might be a female detective. I can't wait.

Is that Ghost Rider doing a side-job?

So we've got one famous actor looking kind of unrecognisable and with a moustache. Now all we need is Vince Vaughn made up to look like Swingers, Dodgeball and The Internship-era Vince Vaughns at various points in the show.

No doubt everybody saw it already, but I'll leave it here for posterity.

This tease didn't end with a comic relief character making a meta quip, so it's pretty much a failure in my book.

The joke'll be on you when you miss the greatest Vince Vaughn performance this side of The Internship, Gorvar.
I guess if this tanks, they can just edit in a few hallucinations to bring the supernatural fans back. Maybe a couple of lines implying Colin Farrell was a ghost.

I'm just gonna head-canon that Vince Vaughn is the Yellow King and he's trying to secretly convert Alcatraz into Carcosa 2.0 while juggling his deep cover responsibilities.
