They're over in the book of Joshua. Spies got sent to Jericho, couldn't make it out before the gates closed. Prostitute picks them up, hides them, makes a deal so she and her family live when Jericho falls. Israelites honor the deal and she marries one of them (thought, but not proven to be, one of the spies she saved) and becomes the great grandmother of David.

Dude - no offence to either your religion or your storytelling capabilities, but that one hasn't got shit on the one with the demon-giants.

Dude - no offence to either your religion or your storytelling capabilities, but that one hasn't got shit on the one with the demon-giants. AND Dinosaurs. I'm pretty sure some biblical texts mention "behemoths" and "leviathan" which had similar characteristics to dinos. Then again, it's been a long while since I did any real bible study so I could be very wrong.

That's an interesting idea for a story, Buch. The first thing I thought about drawing parallels between the father/child relationship to that of the predicament their god has thrown them into is that, well, the father would have to be a nasty piece of work. It could become a really dark story. I've no idea how you could pull this one off, but if you could keep things vague as to whether there is or there isn't a god, whether their cruel fate is divine punishment or just tragically bad luck in the face of a natural disaster, and if you can pour this ambiguity into the character's relationship, it would be a very compelling read. I hope this more or less made sense. If it didn't - grab some keywords from all that, do your magic.

I understand, and thanks Lieden - very helpful. Although I don't have any magic. I'm not planning to include God himself, and I am a bit concerned about accidentally making it look like a pro-Christian(Jewish, etc) story. But I don't want to necessaeily use it as an attack on religion either. I spoke to my lecturer about it yesterday. He sighed when I said 'It's about Noah's Ark' but then when I had finished said, "What about the mother? She doesn't seem to be doing much They should eat her and bond over it!" I'm liking that idea a lot! He also convinved me to try making it a longer piece - about 6000-7000 words, in which there are two or three short stories going on simultaneously, like Cloud Atlas or something like that. I thought maybe 1) The father and son surviving the Flood, and 2) an aunt in a seaside town trying to stop her horribly-depressed niece from drowning herself. Any thoughts, since you all have been so amazing with this so far? This story is important, you see, since it's the equivalent of a dissertation in my creative wrting degree.

RELEVANT!
Okay personally I do like several stories going on at the same time. If i may suggest something...out of fear of having just one viewpoint ( aka Christian/Jewish), I read somepalce Noah's ark story is not the only one that has arcs in it. I think it is also referenced in a few asian stories as well. How about you have another thread with a asian twist? To see how Christans/Jews look at the coming apocalypse and then an Asian look on it?

I didn't want to make it all about the flood if there were multiple stories, so that's probably not where I'll end up. But I had never heard of these Asian stories, so I will be looking them up. Cheers.
