10,000 posts?! That's, well, epic! It's not very easy for me to sympathise with Gina's point of view, but I think you handle it about as well as possible. Very interesting, too. Normally in sci-fi you hear all about people who crave space exploration. This is something different. Loved the 'know what colour our blood is' reference! This was from that stuck-up admiral making an inspection on the SR1 in Mass Effect 1, isn't it? I always thought that was a great line.

I think 'worrying' is a better word than 'epic' for the guy who posted here 10,000 times. Thanks very much for the review. That's what I was trying for - and yes it was the Rear Admiral in the game who didn't like the Normandy's turian design and alien crewmen - 'Do you still know what colour your blood is, Shepard?' I was trying to make parallels between the dumb xenophobia you keep seeing from characters in Mass Effect and the behaviour of the Reapers.

Mod note: just dropping these replies to the appropriate sub forum. Haven't had time to actually read this yet. I'll get to it sooner or later.

Wow, Mister Buch - I love this story! I do so love reading Mass Effect Fanfics that tell the point of view of a non-canon character who was never in the games... and from a different point of view that shows how the war affected those who were not directly involved with the Citadel or the Alliance or Shepard's crew or Cerberus... I love reading the point of view of just the average civilian trying to survive against the Reaper Invasion... Is there more to this story? Or was this a one-shot? Please say there's more...

Huh - thanks, Lily! This one is getting way better reviews than I expected. And no there's no more to it. The character is from another story I write years ago, so if it seems like I'm putting a strange amount of weight on her rather than the Reapers, that's why. For a while me and Knightfall wanted to do a story where two angry anti-alien racists are caught in the invasion on a batarian colony and they're trying to get home to Earth, and then they see the Reapers are already there. So this is like the very, very condensed version of that.

I see... well, it was very well written... I do love the way you write...
And I am entirely too headachey tonight to think clearly enough to type out a comprehensible review, so I'll just say - it was awesome!

I liked it, also liked the cameo of the nightmare kid! Its kidna refreshing to read the tohughts of a racist human in a SF setting. Had it with being open minded, sometimes you just wanna shoot an alien in the face you know.

Haven't got to read the actual story, but I'm almost always reminded of this song when reading the title, minus the 100.

Yes they were. I hoped that wouldn't be too obscure. In the first game if you are Earthborn, the quest 'Old Friends' has a member of the Reds run into you on the Citadel and ask / blackmail you to help him free an imprisoned pro-human terrorist. Shepard mentions that she used to run with gangs, including the Reds, but when she was with them they were just a street gang, not a racist terrorist group. The guy says they've expanded and you can either help him or risk your reputation by turning him in.
The reason I mentioned them in this one is because the character in this story - Gina - is from one of my earlier fanfics (New Friends, which is about the Reds and the Earthborn backstory). So that is the connection to Shepard. I hoped people would either have read that fic, or not notice the gang name, beaue otherwise they'd be confused. xD
