South Park said that the guy who wrote the book ... Thomas something? ... had the "tablets" in a hat and was reading them from inside the hat whilst the guy who was writing it down listened.

I'm pretty sure a hat was never involved.
The story goes, Joseph Smith found the Gold Plates which contained the Book of Mormon (written in Egyptian) buried in a hill, and under God's direction, translated them into English. He read them, whilst another wrote it down.
I think the Wikipedia article is fairly accurate, if you want to know more. I haven't read it, but I'm told I have to go to bed now. G'night!

Lol one of my good friends is Mormon and well lets just say that he's done most of the stuff that Mormons don't believe in, including the drinking.

Good for him. Everything should be experienced at least once. Apart from things that cause instant death of course.

Ha ha! Well good for him still. Whatever makes you happy and doesn't involve suicide, murder or other forms of criminal activity.

I also know next to nothing about Mormonism. You can't even smoke? Yeesh. I thought it was purely an American thing too.
Also, Zars you're a Buddhist? I didn't know that. That's another faith I'm utterly uninformed about.

Hey zars, you're not the only one there with the Buddhism breaking docine. I think I've broken too many due to my ill-temperness and my worldly indugence but hey, even the monks broke the rules too far as well in the monastery. (don't get me started about that...)
I guess all it matters at the end of the day, a common sense is the way to go. Being overtly zealious in your faith can bring a lot of trouble.

I have to live in this current world and some of the things I should adhere to just aren't applicable. I try but I can't always do what I should be doing. For instance I can't just walk away from every fight because otherwise I'd not have my degree. I'm not going to kill myself for a cause because thats just suicide and wrong. I'd love to a be a full vegetarian as well but again not applicable. My health gets dangerous when I stop eating fish. So I eat fish every now and then. I don't tread on ants but I will kill a fly and a slug. I'll feel bad about ti afterwards but I can't let them eat my tomato's. I made a little compost area for them in the back of the garden and let them have all the household waste but they still want to come and eat my tomato's. Its not happening. My favourite thing baout being a Zen Buddhist though is meditation. I keep that up at least. lol

haha yeah... I haven't been into meditation for a while. I think I should. Same goes to helping the needs of others before you. I'll try and help with other people but there certain things I can do due to finatial and/or health. Like giving blood away. I know my stamina and health is weak to the point I'm barely managed to keep my health in a stable condition, so I can't give my own blood away for now. Also killing things. Most of the time I hate killing stuff but we have mouses invading our house, so we had no choice but to put poison tablets for them... it made me sad but it's nessasry.

Poor mice. I kind fo like rodents and spiders.
I know what you mean about giving blood. I used to do it once a year but last two years I've had to poor a general health. Also they take too much blood from me every time I go. I always end up going into shock and crashing out for a few days. I seriously think they should take half a pint for shorter people. I'm told I have great blood though because it clots almost instantly which often causes problem when donating. I have to keep squeezing my hand and they have to get it out faster than normal before it clots in the tube. ... actually maybe thats why I crash out every time! Speed donating.
lol This one time I actually fell asleep during donating and the nurses just let me sleep until closing.

*bursts through the door* Did someone mention religion?! Perhaps I can clear some of this up, me hearties. I am thrilled that there are Mormons in a country like England, because the whole concept is ENTIRELY American. The aforementioned episode of South Park is almost (almost, it's a complicated story) entirely accurate, according to my studies. Joseph Smith was told by an angel to dig around in a certain spot somewhere in New York. There, he found two gold plates which contained what would become the Book of Mormon. Additionally, he found an old shield (the significance of which, I've forgotten) and two magical seer stones (the Urim and the Thummim). These golden plates weren't written in any decipherable language, but using the two seer stones, the "spiritual light" would cause the language to reform into English. So Joseph Smith would look through these stones, transcribe them, and always kept the plates hidden away from everyone. A family friend named Martin Harris, who was well off at the time, obliged to help Smith get this Book of Mormon published. As in the South Park episode, Harris' wife convinced him to hide a section of the manuscript, since she was very skeptical of the whole thing. It's said at that point, Smith re-translated the missing pages, but couldn't do it exactly how it had been the first time. Same basic message, written differently. It was at this time that he would put the plates, along with one of the seer stones, into a hat. Then he would place his face in the hat, and someone would write for him as he spoke. Basic Mormon Tenants: -Jesus came to America at some point in his life, inferring that Native Americans are a lost tribe of Israel. The reason they have dark skin is on account of all of the sins they've committed. And if a dark-skinned human is righteous enough, their skin will turn white once again. -The Garden of Eden, as well as the new one, will be located in Jackson County, Missouri, USA -God is a physical entity who also physically impregnated Mary to conceive Jesus. -God physically lives on a distant star called Kolob -Mormons are required to wear special undergarments to show their faith. These undergarments can protect against sin, car wrecks, and natural disasters. -People who are now dead can be baptized as a Mormon. A few of interest: Ghandi, Adolf Hitler, Genghis Khan, Christopher Columbus, Anne Frank, and President Obama's recently diseased mother. That's most of what I know on the subject. I plan on getting a Book of Mormon from my friends to do some more research. Interesting, eh?! America's own religion. You're welcome. I'm off! *leaves the room, slamming the door behind him*

And if a dark-skinned human is righteous enough, their skin will turn white once again. Well that explains why Mrs Meyer made all her favourite 'vampire' characters that paler than a fresh white paper, is it sybolising them as good. I know it's their religeon but still, the thought having a darker skin because of their sins is mind bogging. I'm sorry but I don't believe such things. At worse for me, it's kinda racist in a sense. That reminded me of this "Falun Gong" belief article I found somewhere on Wikipedia before it was taken off due either neutrally moderation tasks or one of the practicioners changed it around so it sounded "nice". One of the beliefs involves in the higher plane sector (heaven), there is a place for yellow skins, white skins and black skins. For those that are interacial, they cannot belong anywhere in those sectors unless the "Falun Gong" remined. So yeah. If some sort of religeous or 'cultrual' beliefs involves in some sort of racism, then I'm sorry to say I'm both offended and disgust by it...
